One doesn't have to be a military genius to see the folly of this scenario

Drone warfare makes even staging for that assault incredibly difficult. Iran can bomb our bases steadily during deployment. This will not be like Iraq 2003 where our troops got prepared far from Iraq's ability to attack. Iran can attack anywhere we can base from. The reports are that Iran is bombing all of our bases in the region.

Fine, say it is 25,000 troops but that is fantasy land. We have like 50,000 troops in the area with like 10,000 more coming MAX. You ain't throwing 20,000 troops at KI with that number of soldiers/marines in theater.

But all of those troops have to be airlifted, correct? You gonna airlift in 25,000 marines and soldiers? That is like 2000 blackhawk trips. Or are you saying we will land transport aircraft on that tiny runway that we have bombed that is within 20 miles of the Iranian coast.

Again, I see no feasible landing operation with the resources available.

Iran's Official Response to Piggy's threat

"However, if the United States carries out its threats against Iran's power plants, the following punitive actions will be taken immediately:

One very very minor positive is they seem to have taken the desalination plants off the target list so at least MILLIONS won't die of thirst.

Again, while the Iran regime is vile, it should be believed. They have consistently responded in kind and fulfilled their threats.

And keep in mind it may be the next 48 hours that decide the next century if Piggy can be believed. Iran won't open the strait meaning he will destroy their power plants which means Iran will retaliate against the gulf countries' oil and water, which if their successful means the collapse of several countries, because the rely nearly completely on desalination plants. Destroying a 1/4 of the world's oil production will have catastrophic effects that will last decades.

It is scary and sad that our best hope is Piggy is lying or Tacos.

It is my deepest hope that he tacos, but I doubt he will given Israel and the US have already attacked Iran's oil production and just yesterday (or the day before) attacked Iran's nuclear plant.

Assaulting Kharg Island

There are 2 ways to assault Kharg Island-sea and air.

To assault KI by sea would require traversing around 800 miles from open sea to the island. At 25 knots that's around 30 hours. All the while subjected to attack (regardless of what ever defensive measures are taken). A significant portion of that is along a very narrow strait that could be easily mined, requiring even more travel time.

I don't see that as feasible.

To assault KI by air would require helicopters and Osprey aircraft. A Blackhawk helicopter carries 11-12 soldiers or marines. The Osprey between 24 and 32 soldiers and marines

One Marine Expedition Unit (MEU) has around 1200 to 1400 ground combat marines. Supporting troops that might be expected to land would be around another battalion

So, let's say around 1,500 marines in first wave or around 125 Blackhawk helicopter trips or around 50 Osprey trips or combination thereof.

And that is just the initial assault phase

Kuwait is around 150 miles from Kharg Island (I don't believe we have any closer bases)

A Blackhawk can travel that distance in around an hour all out.

I would be literal madness to attempt an assault on KI.

Because ALL that time the marines would be assaulted by artillery, drones, rockets and missiles. I think it fairly safe to assume that Iran has KI surrounded and zeroed in for all of these weapons

While certainly without a doubt the US would attrit this force and would be very active during operations to respond to any attacks, it is insane to think that Iran won't be able to decimate our forces

FWIW Peleliu was attacked by 2 Marine DIVISIONS we are talking 2 marine BATTALIONS for this assault

We are NOT attacking Kharg Island, that is a simple fact

Iran's warns of attacks on regional energy and water sites if its power grid is hit
