US Senate Passes Bill That Could See TikTok Banned

The US Senate has approved a controversial landmark bill that could see TikTok banned in America. It gives TikTok's Chinese owner, ByteDance, nine months to sell its stake or the app will be blocked in the United States. The bill will now be handed over to US President Joe Biden, who has said he will sign it into law as soon as it reaches his desk.

The first court that sees it will toss it. It's performative legislating, and an insult to our intelligence.

I'm fine with it being banned from all government devices, that might have snuck through the courts. Agree with DarkVader that this should get tossed quickly.

Need to read the actual bill. If it's truly only affecting foreign-owned companies operating in the US, It makes sense. If written in any way so it can affect companies owned by US citizens, I would call it a deeply disturbing attack on free speech.

Either way, it's hard to feel bad for TikToc. Social media somehow evolves to only be more toxic and creepy the longer it's around, not less.

I want my influencer videos. I have a right to them.

My free speech is being infringed upon. My life is being affected.

Why is the First amendment considered less important than the Second?

Why is killing people more important than information and the values it shares?

Try passing a law to ban Smith and Wesson guns only.

I doubt it would be left alone, as enforceable.

But TikTok sure, it's just kids playing around.

Americans love Guns more than Freedom.
