Army's $11 Million Deal with the Rock Backfires Spectacularly

The Army reportedly spent millions getting Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his United Football League to drive up recruitment, only to end up losing enlistments.

$11 million. What's that in military terms? A couple of Sidewinders?

Kids are too fat to join and don't want to go to a fat camp to get in.

Half the kids living today in the USA cannot cross their arms in front of them when they stand and can't cross their legs when they sit down... because they are fat... obese... overweight...

Perhaps the military should make plus-sized uniforms and stretch-fabric BDUs as a realistic approach to fill the ranks in our nation's current reality.

Until that is addressed things are probably going to stay the same.

I doubt obesity is why the only reason the military isn't hitting its number's.

Only ~23% of youths aged 17 to 24 can meet the standards for the military.

1. Tattoos.
2. Recreational drug use.
3. Medications (ADHD)
4. Negative perceptions.

They are actually considering allowing soldiers that smoke marijuana casually.

When the US education system, and their families doesn't hold children to any standards, don't be surprised if they don't meet any.

Those that do meet standards are doing so to not have to join the military.

This is funny and horribly biased. This statement implies TheRock was the cause of the lose of enlistments.

The Army chose to use TheRock because recruitment was a problem. In 2022, it missed a goal of 60,000 soldiers by 15,000. The shortfall is consistent with the decline in recruiting among men.

56% of US kids 18-24 yrs... are currently obese.

I'm not sure of the percentage with prohibited tatts... other than the number seems to grow every day... Tres "Future Shock"
Recreational drugs... like beer?... oh wait... welll 6 months good diet exercise and abstinence... including beer... would fix it... same as a diet for fat.
Prescription drugs. Why aren't we meeting up with big pharma about this? Oh wait that Prozac thing during long deployments and ensuing suicides...leading to:
Negative perceptions? Wellllllllllllllllllllll...

I think it's obesity...mostly.

"This is funny and horribly biased."

So says a funny (not funny ha ha) and horribly biased poster.

Tats are allowed in the military.

Drug use in the past is allowed. As long as you can pass a piss test now. (You are coached to never admit it)

And what the hell is a "negative perception"?

The recruiter has the "option" of running a background check. They stare at you for ten minutes. They ask you why you want to join. If you have voices in your head saying "Kill!" "Kill!" "Kill!" You are in!

There are restrictions on tatts in the military face neck and hands I think.

Nobody wants to be in Iraq or Afghanistan for ten years and then we lose.

I can't say as I blame todays kids for that...

We only win wars that we are supposed to win. We don't win those that we aren't supposed to win.

Yes. Because the military does still have standards for military discipline.

They are not recruiting Vikings and orcs. Yet. Some tats are just plain gross.

"New regulations allow unlimited tattoos on the legs, arms, neck, hands and behind the ears. The only places on the body that are off limits are the head, face and scalp."

There are some restrictions but tats are now allowed. And even encouraged in some cases. It was a tradition to get a tattoo when in port and if you got drunk in San Diego as I (vaguely) recall.

In the US, tours of duty are 10yrs?

While I can't blame the soldiers, I do believe the US try's to sanitize the war too much.

Putting right or wrong aside ...

IMO the US citizens really comprehend the death toll that is occurring in Ukraine.

Military combat tours are not ten years. But during the "Forever Wars" that POTUS G. W. Bush initially oversaw, Soldiers were constantly being deployed and re-deployed to either Iraq or Afghanistan (and other dangerous theaters of operation like northern Syria to fight ISIL). Families missed their loved ones and many Soldiers came home with PTSD (or injuries).

During the post WWII Draft Era, if a Soldier luckily survived his one year tour in Vietnam he went home.
