Florida Sheriff 'perp Walks' 11-year-old After Threatening Shooting

A Florida sheriff released the mug shot and video of an 11-year-old child charged with a felony for allegedly making a written threat of a mass shooting.

More

"Since parents, you don't want to raise your kids, I'm gonna start raising them," Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said at a news conference Friday. "Every time we make an arrest, your kids' photo is going to be put out there and if I can do it, I'm gonna perp walk your kid so that everybody can see what your kid's up to."

Comments

Time to charge the parents for this as well.

Who let's an 11 year old have an arsenal of weapons?

I don't like cops to put it plainly. This sheriff standing up against Nazis last year actually impressed me but he lost any goodwill that generated with this ridiculous stunt. An 11-year-old?!?! Shame the parents, sure, but an 11-year-old should never be publicly shamed for political reasons. This sheriff is 100% doing this for politics, to advance his career at the expense of a child. Disgusting.

Drama Queen Sheriff... he apparently needs the headlines to stay relevant.

An 11-year-old is clearly old enough to know right from wrong. Given the severity of the threats, I think this is a fair response. It's not like he's being perp-walked simply for using the "finger gun".

No, he was perp-walked for having plastic toy guns and the misfortune to live in a county with a sensationalist sheriff who'd rather make a child's life worse for some good press than help the kid. Every gun in that ridiculous photo is an airsoft toy.

The threats were serious enough that they wasted a lot of resources, just like calling in bomb threats.

Cops doing their jobs is not a waste of resources it's literally what they're there for.

I remember when kids used to be marched up to the head of the classroom... then paddled in the front of the class... or worse yet ... gasp!... sent to the principal's office to face a larger paddle... and always for lesser offenses than threatening to shoot someone... then face additional paddling at home... from their parents when they found out.

They were humiliating... but never brutal... and happened mostly to boys.... girls usually just got shaken in front of everyone... boys got both.

I was disciplined in front of the class once... in third grade... it was enough for me.

Of course... we used to be driven around in the back of a pickup truck back then as well...

I remember having to give the school permission when my kids went... seriously... they sent home a form to fill out...

My grandson's generation (millennials) the trend had already been eliminated from the curriculum so my daughter never had to give permission.

Pigs releasing information about kids should be a crime if it isn't already.

The next one perp walked needs to be this worthless piece of feces piggy.

What you're describing is child abuse, not discipline.

In yet another example of how worthless pigs are, no one was arrested for abusing you. They should have been.

Sure sounded like child abuse to me. I would never have allowed it even back then..

And if I have anything to say about it now then we are not going back!

Calling in fake bomb threats doesn't waste resources? Are you sure you wanna go with that, bucko?

The word bomb appears exactly 0 times in that article, -------.

BullBringer gave those bomb threats a thumbs up yesterday.

The morons of Trumpland are all good with shouting fire in a crowded theater in order to get the Haitians out.

You can't have it both ways. What that kid (and apparently at least two other kids) did was just as disruptive as any bomb threat.

#8 may be a little over the top, but we have definitely let the pendulum swing too far the other way. We let kids run rampant now all in fear of hurting their self esteems. Then we print articles about how the current generation entering the workforce is has large portions of it that have absolutely no ability to function in the work place. Seems a little more discipline and a little less self esteem might be the right mix.

I like this Sheriff, but this went too far, IMO.
Parents should be notified, and if they don't do anything about it and it happens again, then humiliate the parents.
Too many parents deny their "precious child" could be bullying anyone or calling in bomb threats, or that they'd do anything "bad."

If the cops ignore shooting threats, they are nogoodniks.
If they take the threats seriously, they're still wrong?
If this the definition of progressive, count me out and count all the parents of kids killed in school shootings out.
