Gen Zers say they're underpaid. Can't afford inflation

Previous surveys have found that Gen Zers tend to overestimate how much they should be earning. ResumeTemplates.com conducted a survey in September to understand the salary expectations of Gen Zers (ages 18 to 27) who are working full-time and do not have children and found that almost nine in 10 Gen Z workers say they're underpaid. 87% of Gen Z full-time workers feel they are underpaid 1 in 5 Gen Zers believe they should be making $100,000 or more 60% report being unable to afford their basic needs on their current salary Nearly 20% of those who struggle to cover basic needs still spend $500 or more per month on non-essential goods 19% say they would need to earn $100,000 or more to afford their basic needs.

Interesting article.

My first question...

Are they underpaid?

Too bad for them. I feel as sorry for them as Gracie does.

Are they underpaid?

Fifteen dollars per hour is the new target minimum wage among many labor activists, and North Carolina just became the first state to introduce a $15 minimum wage for state workers. But shouldn't Ph.D.s earn more than that? That's what many on Twitter said this week, not so politely, after the Social Science Research Network posted an ad for a part-time, work-from-home job reviewing and classifying article abstracts for online journals about transportation. Qualifications include experience in transportation, with a Ph.D. "strongly preferred." Compensation is $15 per hour.

"Are they underpaid?"

There is no such thing as being underpaid.

When I ended my enlistment in the Navy in 1998, my first job paid $12k per year. That's ~$23k in 2024$. I thought I was rich compared to what the Navy had been paying me.

The difference is what constitutes a "want" and what constitutes a "need." Maybe they think they are being cheated because some of their peers are making hundreds of thousands doing Tik Tok videos or showing their feet on OnlyFans.

Oh ---- that was my outside voice and text to speech. Transport Engineers aren't poor, unless they're so deep in college debt it makes you question their math skills.

According to JPW inflation isn't a problem anymore.

How does one become a billionaire without completely stiffing their work force?

Being the recipient of the profits of other's labor is the only way to become part of the 1%.

Yes, they are.

Unfortunately for them.

Capitalism really has turned America into a pay to play nation.

Older nations have some roots in a desire to take care of their citizens.
