Nebraska State Senator Deals Trump Serious Setback

A pressure campaign from Donald Trump and Republican allies to change Nebraska election law was dealt a significant setback on Monday as a pivotal Omaha state senator said he would not support a last-ditch effort to overturn a 30-year law that awards electoral votes by congressional district rather than statewide winner-take-all.

"After deep consideration, it is clear to me that right now, 43 days from Election Day, is not the moment to make this change," McDonnell said.

"I have notified Governor (Jim) Pillen that I will not change my long-held position and will oppose any attempted changes to our electoral college system before the 2024 election."

McDonnell was seen as one of the last best hopes from Republicans to change the law before November. He made clear that he had no interest in supporting a change so close to the election.

"Nebraska voters, not politicians of either party, should have the final say on how we pick a President," McDonnell said.

"I want to thank the voters who reached out to me for engaging in democracy and for showing America who Nebraskans are " fiercely independent, filled with pride about our great city of Omaha, and deeply devoted to the promise of American democracy."

Brave man what with all those bomb throwing Proud Boys out there Standing Up.

This is another desperate attempt to rig the election by Republicans... so nothing new.

I applaud his courage and willilngness to expose himself to the threats of MAGAcrazies! I'd just like to know, do we still have MgaTS POSTING HERE?

Let's hope he can withstand the pressure - death threats come to mind for some reason - from feral MAGAts. The Republicans would happily change the rules minutes election if they could. And it's doubtful they'll suddenly come to something they've avoided like the plague: common decency.

Poor Lindsay Graham...all that ass kissing he did in Nebraska this past weekend was in vain.

Lived in Nebraska most of my life, before coming east,
proud of the Democrats in Omaha, standing up against the
rest of the state. Happy that the politician made the
right decision. Nebraskans need to decide how Nebraskans
vote.

So you're not a REAL republican unless you change election rules to help putin's puppet seize power?

All Trump does is cheat and lie. I mean, it is all he has. Period. Glad this one didn't work out for him.

It's an obvious attempt for Trump to rig the election in his favor f*** it.

BREAKING...

"Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen put the effort to reform the Cornhusker state's allocation of electoral votes to rest Tuesday, confirming he has no plans to call a special session before the November election.

Why it matters: The GOP-led effort to switch Nebraska's electoral vote system to winner-take-all, if successful, would likely have guaranteed former President Trump one more electoral vote in what is predicted to be a tight election.

Driving the news: Pointing to state Sen. Mike McDonnell's (R) announcement that he would not join the Republican push, Pillen said the effort could not reach the 33-member threshold needed to overcome a filibuster.

"Given everything at stake for Nebraska and our country, we have left every inch on the field to get this done," the Republican governor said in a statement, calling McDonnell's refusal to vote for a winner-take-all system "profoundly disappointing."

I guess wanting to do the will of the people does make you a RINO These days. Let the voters decide how they want to handle their electoral votes.
