NOAA May 2024 Hurricane Prediction Looks Good So Far

In May 2024, NOAA predicted an above-normal Atlantic hurricane season for 2024, with a 90% chance of this happening: Named storms: 17"24 Hurricanes: 8"13 Major hurricanes: 4"7.

As of Oct. 3, 12 named storms had formed in 2024, including seven that reached hurricane status and three that strengthened into major hurricanes.

Comments

With almost eight weeks left to the hurricane season, all that's required are five more named storms and one more major hurricane (and Milton looks like it'll reach major hurricane status within a day or so).

Kudos to NOAA for a decent seasonal hurricane forecast!

There was thread just before Helene hit critical of NOAA and was a Fixed News talking point for days used as a cudgel to bash the government. At that time I said threads like that never age well.

I am quite certain all the maga maroons who posted negative crap on it want to forget they ever did now.

Forecasting has come a long way since grandaddy's gout was a primary predictive element.

If Trump wins in November, one of his promises is to eliminate NOAA.

Republicans seem to believe if you ignore reality, it will go away.
