Dog Left Tied to Post on I-75 Near Tampa

A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper saved a poor pup that was left tied to a pole on Interstate 75 near Tampa on Wednesday morning as last-minute evacuations continued ahead of Hurricane Milton. Heartbreaking video of the rescue shows the scared white dog tied up to fencing off the side of the highway near Bruce B Downs Boulevard. As the trooper inched near the dog, he could see that water was rising above the dog's legs, nearing its chest from the ongoing rain.

A subsequent post from the patrol showed the dog looking much better and said an examination found it in good health.

Tied up so he couldn't even try to save himself.

That's cold.

There's a special place in hell for someone who'd TIE A DOG TO A POST in a hurricane! WT actual F?!

Over the year we've adopted 14 dogs others threw away (strays no one was looking for), most recently 3 months ago after a month long attempt to find his family. Looks like they just threw him away. He's an absolute sweetheart. Just now, 3 months later, he's quit cowering with side of head all the way on the floor. Another poor guy who was emaciated and dirty.

Another dozen+ we've fostered until we they were either reunited with their caring families, the others adopted to wonderful forever homes.

There are two kinds of pet owners: dog lovers and dog owners, the latter treating dogs like an accessory instead of a family member.

That's heartbreaking. There was only a short window of time where that dog could've been seen and saved. So glad the highway patrol or a bystander spotted it in time.

Poor thing! Looks like General Patton's dog, "Willie". After Milton, I hope the Florida State Police or the ASPCA catch the fiend that could be so cruel.

The good news to come out of this is that all this publicity will land him/her a great family.

I've been a volunteer with a handful of dog rescue orgs for many years. The number of people who just throw their dogs away is staggering. One dog I fostered (we became "foster failures" and adopted her) was dropped off at animal control with the comment "she's too old. We want a new one." She lived with us for 3 years until she passed away and was an absolute sweetheart.

Dogs are NOT accessories. They are much better beings then most people on earth. Getting a dog is a lifetime commitment to care for them as a beloved family member, not an accessory to be neglected or discarded.

Heck, we'd apply if we didn't have one of our adoptees going through chemo for lymphoma and another senior with congestive heart disease. Our new stray>adoptee is young and very playful. He'd be all in on another playmate besides our cat, who adopted us.

My Red, MAGA country abandons dogs all of the time.

The only thing new about this is that there was a hurricane.

Thanks to the cop that saved that dog from an owner that did not deserve it.
Dogs are innocent loving beings and deserve far better than being tied to a pole
to fend for itself. Thankfully the sharp eyed policeman was able to rescue the
poor dogger in time.

If there is a problem with dogs and cats as pets it is that they die too soon and dont live longer. Most of us with pets will do anything to help them live longer as part of our family. Maybe there is more to this story than someone cruelly tying their dog to a post.

That's no way to treat a slave. Should have at least granted it the freedom it couldn't handle.
When you think about it, that person did the dog a favor. If they had just let it run free no one would have found it. And since these slaves are bred to be completely incompetent, that would have meant a death sentence.

As someone who volunteers a lot of time at my local animal shelter, this really pisses me off.... I see sooo many people who have no business having pets.:(
