Bezos Orders more conservative writers at WaPo

Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos has reportedly given the newspaper a mandate to add more conservative voices to its opinion section " even as he remains silent over the broadsheet's decision not to endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Bezos " the world's second richest person with a fortune that Bloomberg Billionaires Index valued at $211 billion as of Monday " is keen on gaining a more ideologically diverse readership by expanding his newspaper's reach among right-leaning audiences, according to a report in The New York Times.

Bezos is smart. He knows the WaPo is a losing business - and while a pull back to the center may be good for its credibility, I highly doubt you will get conservatives subscribers back regardless. So, I think the most logical conclusion is that he took out a huge insurance policy and assumed the progressives will burn it down after Kamala loses and they blame the WaPo rather than their horrible candidate or lack of policies people actually want.

When so many get their "news" from any nutbag that figures out how to use a platform with an agenda, I agree it creates a distrust especially when it doesn't fit your narrative. Which is why the right is so bat s--t crazy about the media.

There is no problem with having more conservative writers: as long as they are rational, honest and factual. In fact, I would like to see the Post have progressive and conservative writers have "side by side" columns addressing the same topic. That way, readers could get a "real time" perspective of different sides of an issue.

The FCC should recognize it's role in allowing the spread of mis and dis information. Bring back the Fairness Doctrine or something equivalent. I would also like to see a broadcast channel exclusively for political ads. Running the ads would be FREE. The only caveat is that the ad must be truthful and display a scan code so that FCC staff and viewers can verify the truthfulness of and information sources used to produce the ad. This type of ad platform could become a catalyst for other platforms to deny running an ad unless it appeared on the FCC's Truth In Advertising (TIA) platform. Note: this will only be possible if Harris wins.
