Does this mean the cars are bad or does it mean bad drivers tend to buy them?

I wonder how much of this is the so-called full self-driving system?

US probes Tesla's Full Self-Driving software in 2.4 mln cars after fatal crash (October 2024)
www.reuters.com

... The U.S. auto safety regulator on Friday opened an investigation into 2.4 million Tesla vehicles equipped with the automaker's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software after four reported collisions, including a 2023 fatal crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) preliminary evaluation is the first step before the agency could seek a recall of the vehicles if it believes they pose an unreasonable risk to safety.

The new scrutiny of the advanced driver assistance system comes as Tesla CEO Elon Musk looks to shift Tesla's focus to self-driving technology and robotaxis as it faces growing competition and weak demand in its auto business. ...

I wonder if the NHTSA is on Co-President Elon's list of agencies to cancel?

The skateboard concept was never all its cracked up to be. People bought that shit wholesale though early on in Tesla's run.

@#6 ... The skateboard concept ...

First time I have heard that phrase.

Is this a correct citation for it?

Skateboard (automotive platform)
en.wikipedia.org(automotive_platform)

... A skateboard is a type of configuration for automotive chassis, used for automotive platforms of battery electric vehicles. The skateboard chassis includes a base structure or a platform, which houses the batteries, electric motors and other electronic components fundamental to an electric vehicle.

A skateboard chassis cuts down the cost and complexity of manufacturing and production of electric vehicles, as it is a self-contained platform, with all the necessary driving and electronic components integrated into it, and which can be mounted with a variety of bodies after scaling them into various sizes. The skateboard allows an automaker to design and manufacture vehicles in several vehicle categories and body segments without engineering each one independently. ...

idk, why aren't they getting sued? Seems like liability here would be paramount to fix this abuse, and tech failure.

Tesla Has The Highest Accident Rate Of Any Auto Brand
"What a missed opportunity," said Matthew Wansley, a professor at the Cardozo School of Law in New York. "I have yet to see Tesla, or anyone defending Tesla, come up with an argument for why we should be letting people use [Autopilot] on roads that could have cross traffic. That's how a lot of these crashes are happening."

"The models on this list likely reflect a combination of driver behavior and driving conditions, leading to increased crashes and fatalities," iSeeCars executive analyst Karl Brauer said in the report. "A focused, alert driver, traveling at a legal or prudent speed, without being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, is the most likely to arrive safely regardless of the vehicle they're driving."

This is just a more PC version of the "Nut behind the wheel" bullshit they liked to say back in the 60s & 70s. The cars are clearly unsafe.
