TikTok went offline in the United States Saturday night, less than two hours before a ban was slated to go into effect.

Trump has nothing to do with That.

170 million Americans don't need to be "Protected".

If they can ban TikTok they can ban anything.

This is just a foretaste of what's coming

It is being driven by the SCOTUS and their insane vision of their own role in American life.

Trump is wrong on most things but not this.

Your ignorance is showing. If memory serves me correctly. It was Trump himself who started this TikTok ban talk when a bunch of teenagers played him like a fool by ordering a bunch of tickets to the Tulsa Oklahoma rally that Trump held. They went in TikTok to coordinate so they could prevent Trump from having a large crowd there. He got pissed off and said TikTok should be banned because his feelings were hurt. Nah he started this. Just sayin

A theory explaining all this has quietly and persistently circulated among TikTokers since the ban was first discussed a few weeks ago: What if this has nothing to do with China, nothing to do with national security? What if this does have everything to do with Trump's rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in June? The event was supposed to mark a return to the campaign assemblies that the president covets, a comeback show of force with nearly 20,000 people in attendance after months of Covid 19 lockdown. And it was totally ruined for him by TikTokers and other young people online who coordinated a campaign to register for tickets to the event and never show up. So, what if the ban on TikTok is retaliation for that?

It's bad policy to ban free speech platforms for vague "Security" reasons.

Not the actions of a free society. This issue has Nothing to do with Trump.

It's About the role of government in constraining free exchange of ideas.

In the United States that role should ideally, be Zero.

Banning a popular and generally harmless free speech platform used by almost two hundred million people...... Duh. Not Freedom in action.

America is losing its values and Trump isn't the whole reason.

Our entire country on both sides of the aisle is becoming too paranoid and too controlling of free speech and expression.

TikTok is not important so much for itself as the obvious erosion of basic liberty banning it clearly shows.

NOT GOOD POLICY. By anyone or for any reason.

June 20th, President Donald Trump showed up in Tulsa, Oklahoma for his first campaign rally after a three-month hiatus. Before the rally, the Trump campaign bragged about the million tickets that had been pre-requested. But when the rally started only 6200 people showed up at the arena, and the President addressed a sea of empty chairs. Politically active young people used TikTok to encourage others to reserve tickets but not show up, thereby forcing Trump to play to an empty room.

Soon thereafter, President Trump released an Executive Order banning Chinese applications TikTok and WeChat in the United States and ordering TikTok's sale to an American company. He argued the companies could release personal data to the Chinese government and therefore represented a national security threat. TikTok now is in talks with Oracle for the sale of its American operations.

President-elect Donald Trump said he will "most likely" delay a ban on TikTok for 90 days after he takes office on Monday, but noted he has not made a final decision in an interview with NBC News on Saturday. "I think that would be, certainly, an option that we look at. The 90-day extension is something that will be most likely done, because it's appropriate. You know, it's appropriate. We have to look at it carefully. It's a very big situation"

Well that's definitive.

The Israeli Government wanted something done about TikTok. They claimed it was damaging the narrative about the war and they wanted it stopped.

Once again the tail is wagging the dog. Americans lose their civil rights to protect Murderers and land thieves from censure or accountability.

It Stinks and Trump isn't the cause. Israel is.

They still are seen by most of the World as Criminal Usurpers and Murderous Bigots.

I don't really care what happens either way. I just find it funny that a bunch of people who contribute nothing beneficial to society lost their incomes after they quit their jobs to become TikTok influencers.

So me times there just is not enough information made public for alleged security related reasons to properly weigh a congressional or executive action. This may be one of those situations.

I certainly do not believe the decision to shut down a multi billion dollar operation that employed Americans as well as Foreign nationals was made frivolously or mainly as the result of hurt feelings.

We only know the basic outline of the story relating to the connection between Tim Tom and the Chinese government. We do not know the details.
