@#1 ... Hernandez had a blood-alcohol content of .20% after the crash, authorities said " more than double the state's legal limit. ...

Whoa.

blood alcohol content
www.utoledo.edu

...
Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) is a measure of alcohol in the blood as a percentage. It is calculated in grams per 100 mL of blood, so a BAC of 0.08 means your blood is 0.08% alcohol by volume. Using a breathalyzer, BAC is measured as grams per 210 Liters of breath (since the ratio of breath alcohol to blood alcohol is 2,100:1).

What do you experience at different BAC levels?

The following are predictable effects we'd expect to see at different BAC levels for a drinker who has not developed tolerance. Some of these change with tolerance; others don't (see the page on tolerance). ...

OK, the article lists the various levels, and their effects.

For 0.20% it lists ...

...
.20-.24% Dazed and confused -- Gross disorientation to time and place, increased nausea and vomiting, may need assistance to stand or walk, impervious to pain, blackout likely
...

And, fwiw, the chart goes up to ...

...
.31% and up Coma -- Level of surgical amnesia, onset of coma, possibility of acute alcohol poisoning, death due to respiratory arrest likely in 50% of drinkers

As another data point in this discussion ...

A third of fatal crashes in CT in 2022 were caused by alcohol-impaired drivers, latest data shows
www.ctpost.com

... Connecticut has among the highest rates of fatalities related to alcohol-impaired driving in the nation, according to 2022 data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

As Connecticut grapples with another deadly year on the roads -- at least 329 deaths in traffic crashes in 2024 -- the General Assembly may take a look at bringing the drunken driving blood-alcohol threshold down to .05 from the current .08.

This is the third year in a row the state transportation department has asked to lower the drunken driving threshold. Utah passed a law in 2018 to lower their drunk driving threshold to 0.05 BAC, but all other states maintain a 0.08 threshold.

While the bill has been well received by the transportation committee over the past two legislative sessions, there has yet to be a vote in either chamber of the General Assembly, said Josh Morgan, a spokesperson for Connecticut DOT. ...

Context, from #2 ...

.05-.07% Buzzed -- Relaxation, euphoria, lower inhibitions, minor impairment of reasoning and memory, exaggerated emotions (positive and negative)

.08-.10% Legally impaired -- Euphoria, fatigue, impairment in balance, speech, vision (particularly peripheral), reaction time, and hearing, judgment and self-control impaired

Miss Hernandez destroyed a family, but prays for them every day. That really helps. Perfect candidate for Trumpf's GITMO plan.

Someone must have edited out the part where she declared herself t be a Christian patriot, mother, voter, responsible adult, tax payer and white, thus being immune from prosecution and imprisonment. A GoFundMe page will be started to cover the seven figure legal bill she will amass to bring her case to the Supreme Court, and be vindicated!

I don't want to minimize drunk driving. The thing is if it is anything like around here, I am always skeptical of the numbers. If you have ANY alcohol in your system, are involved in a crash and do not cause the crash in any way it was still alcohol related. I know this because of a tragic accident and a kid who was not at fault who had a " detectable trace" of alcohol in his blood on the report (less than 0.01).
