Jist for starters:

Israel = 8,600 square miles v. USA = 4,000,000 square miles

Each Iron Dome system can defend an area of roughly 150 square miles. According to security experts, the US would need to deploy more than 24,700 $100 million Iron Dome batteries, costing a total of $2.5 trillion, to defend the 3.8 million square miles of the continental United States, which excludes Hawaii.

Is Iron Dome designed to blast whatever comes off Russian and/or Chinese launching pads in an all-out attack? I'm assuming Field Marshal Donald "Sharpie" Trump knows the answer, but I don't and, frankly, I'm curious.

Liberals think of protecting the US by making friends with most of the rest of the world when possible.

Trump is just lying to his ignorant Base about what's realistic and what's not.

From what? Mexico and Canada? Partially defending against ICBMs from Russia or China is futile as our response is going to kill us all with nuclear winter anyway.

It's a perfect example of the kind of bloat BLOTUS will bring to our budget all to make dips*&^s like you thump your little chests and act like you love America.

From canadian rockets?

He's focused on fantasies instead of real problems.

#17 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2025-01-28 08:15 PM

Is he admitting that the current system does not work?

#18 | Posted by REDIAL at 2025-01-28 08:32 PM

Iron Dome is not designed for ICBMs.
The USA has large oceans on the west and east coasts, The gulf of America in the Southeast, a friendly northern neighbor, and Mexico as border countries.

Is this in anticipation of the southern deployment of forces to receive mortar and other small/medium projectile incoming fires?

#19 | Posted by GOnoles92 at 2025-01-28 08:46 PM

I am hoping that instead he meant expanding investment in anti-ICBM technologies and their strategic positioning.

#20 | Posted by GOnoles92 at 2025-01-28 08:47 PM

Trump is ready to
Start wars with the rest of the world.

Putin is pleased.

Given that there is amore than even chance Doanld will start a war with Mexico, yes.

#25 | Posted by Zed at 2025-01-29 08:25 AM

In the 90s we told Israel that Iron Dome would never work. Then it did.

A much more pressing problem, America doesn't make enough missiles to keep the Houthis suppressed. If an actual conflict against a near peer adversary breaks out, air defenses will be deleted in a few months or less.

#26 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2025-01-29 10:37 AM

Weapons manufacturers should meet a Mangioni-style end.

Absolutely a real concern. Also, replenishment at sea or close to the area of operations of armament to conduct the mission. I have no idea of the logistics supporting the mission in the Red Sea, but I've watched Greyhound (movie) and there isn't infinite reload of inventory in real life.

#28 | Posted by GOnoles92 at 2025-01-29 04:27 PM

Platforms on station, as well as non-mobile platforms, if total inventory == 0, then there is zero.

I demand Trump resigns and reports directly to a New York prison!

oooooooooOOO00000OOOOOoooooooo lions and tigers and bears... All the wars you've ever fought in we've lost Boazo-0.

Not sure you should be the one giving us advice on how to protect ourselves... btw... because you paved the way for the Arabs to own our largest oil refinery... with all that money they were making financing the enemy you were fighting. You are more likely to open the door and let them in singing Yankee Doodle Dandy... all gung ho... all the way... what we need is a new circular firing squad...

Israel's "Iron Dome" is Uncle Sam's wallet... itty bitty country... leading you around by the short hairs.

Did those things protect Ukrainians?

"Is this in anticipation of the southern deployment of forces to receive mortar and other small/medium projectile incoming fires?"

I think it is a stream of consciousness decision not based on existing capability gaps.

Unlike the commies, the US has minimal Ground-Based Air Defense (GBAD) systems. Maybe 4-5 total, compared to the 15-20 currently deployed by the Soviets. It's a difference in philosophy. The US relies primarily on aircraft to fill air defense roles, because the US (and the west in general) can field highly capable, multi-role aircraft that can shoot down missiles one minute and drop bombs on enemy targets the next. The Russians don't have this ability. Their planes are less advanced, and their pilots are less proficient. Their GBAD systems are pretty good, and require a fraction of the training needed to gain proficiency when compared to a manned aircraft.

I'm not against the Iron Dome. I think it would be a good asset to test out on the Ukrainian Test Range.

It wasn't meant to protect them from a Russian invasion.

Our privatized medical establishment gave us an overly medicated transgender community... among other craziness. Go free market!

Agreed. I wonder if they even have C-RAMs on that front?
Good to know about the role of aircrafts on the US side of strategic defense doctrine versus GBAD. Learn something new every day.
