White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday clashed with a reporter with The Associated Press over President Trump's use of tariffs after granting the outlet a rare question during a White House press briefing. At one point, Leavitt called on an Associated Press reporter, who asked Leavitt why the president was proposing "tax hikes in the form of tariffs" as opposed to the tax cuts he promised on the campaign trail. He's actually not implementing tax hikes. Tariffs are a tax hike on foreign countries that, again, have been ripping us off," Leavitt said. "Tariffs are a tax cut for the American people, and the president is a staunch advocate for tax cuts."
