Vets Rally Against VA Cuts

Punk rockers and activist band Dropkick Murphys will play at a Washington D.C. rally amid dozens, and perhap hundreds, of gatherings nationally to protest cuts to VA staffing.

Today, Veterans, members of Congress, and the Women in the Services Coalition stood on the Capitol steps to say what this administration refuses to:

Women serve. Women lead. Women have always fought for this country.

We won't let Trump erase their legacy--or silence those still in uniform.[image or embed]

It should be millions of us standing up for Veterans and against non-veterans like Trump and Musk!

Sorry vets. You've been mooching off the tax payers too long. Time to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and find your own healthcare. We've got to take care of our rich donors who bribed us for tax cuts - THE GOP

DOGE used flawed AI tool to "munch" Veterans Affairs contracts
arstechnica.com

... Staffer had no medical experience, and the results were predictably, spectacularly bad.

As the Trump administration prepared to cancel contracts at the Department of Veterans Affairs this year, officials turned to a software engineer with no health care or government experience to guide them.

The engineer, working for the Department of Government Efficiency, quickly built an artificial intelligence tool to identify which services from private companies were not essential. He labeled those contracts "MUNCHABLE."

The code, using outdated and inexpensive AI models, produced results with glaring mistakes. For instance, it hallucinated the size of contracts, frequently misreading them and inflating their value. It concluded more than a thousand were each worth $34 million, when in fact some were for as little as $35,000.

The DOGE AI tool flagged more than 2,000 contracts for "munching." It's unclear how many have been or are on track to be canceled"the Trump administration's decisions on VA contracts have largely been a black box. The VA uses contractors for many reasons, including to support hospitals, research, and other services aimed at caring for ailing veterans.

VA officials have said they've killed nearly 600 contracts overall. Congressional Democrats have been pressing VA leaders for specific details of what's been canceled without success. ...

My opinion is, any personnel shortage at the VA is skilled care. There are so many support people that they trip over each other, yet can't seem to get things done efficiently. You can talk to them across departments, yet still have to repeat information that should be on a screen right in front of them. Even the skilled help is remarkable inefficient; the PA will see you first, and spend a lot of time asking about history- "When was your last [procedure]?", "What prescriptions are you taking?" questions like this, while he has two huge monitors right there, your files and everything right there, then you go in to see the doctor, and guess what? He'll ask many of the same questions you just answered! But to be fair, the PA wasn't entering anything in as he asked your thousand questions, so any new information will not be right there on your doctor's two huge monitors; he will have to make do with the 10 years worth of the same answers they always ask again, which of course should be accessed on his monitors...

@#7 ... Staffer had no medical experience, and the results were predictably, spectacularly bad. ...

But I'd proffer that he was loyal to the MAGA cult leader.

And that seems to outweigh actual qualification for the position.
