Texas Talks Tough on Immigration -- But Won't Force Most Private Companies to Check Employment Authorization

Texas' conservative Legislature has again and again refused to mandate that most private businesses use E-Verify. Experts say that Republican resistance is rooted in how the system could impact the state's labor supply and economy.

Eh, I dont think I agree with this.

If you want to REALLY stop illegal immigration, go after the employers.

The point is that they obviously DON'T REALLY want to stop it.

"Eh, I dont think I agree with this."

You've been had, again.

Hey, at least you're starting to realize it. Some of you people will never figure it out.

Which begs the question... If they don't REALLY want to stop illegal immigration, what is the point of all the rhetoric?

It has always seemed to me like the purpose was to whip up racist votes while while creating an exploitable underclass. But if you have another theory that fits the facts then I would love to hear it.

You answered your question just fine. It's about votes. It's about paranoia.

Nobody really wants to stop immigration, including a certain amount of illegal immigration. We have some very crucial industries that rely heavily on it and nobody has a better solution and it's been this way for 50 years.

But what we can't seem to run out of is steady supply of voters who are clueless on how the world really works.

You aren't going to. This country's economy would crater if you did that.

LOL some of us have been saying this for years.

Yet people like you have voted for politicians like what Texas has for those very same years, even as you b*&^*ed about immigration the entire time.

Will you ever realize you're a rube being taken advantage of?

I think we all know what the point is.

Boaz demonstrates it perfectly.

" If you want to REALLY stop illegal immigration, go after the employers."

The fact the workers were targeted, while the hirers were ignored, should tell you everything you need to know.

The headlines shouldn't have been "100 illegals found working on FSU Housing Project", but rather:

"Hirer of Scores of Illegals Arrested and Jailed."

All these roundup raids by ICE will NEVER happen in Tejas or Okiehomie. Why not? A large portion of the employment base in the service and construction business sectors will instantly disappear. No one wants to see their exploited, undocumented work force of landscapers, roofers, carpet layers, bussers, dishwashers and room attendants run off. There are not any white folks around to take those jobs. Such raids in Blue or Purple states will continue for show, but NEVER in palces where the undocumented are necessary for functioning economies...

Corps and owners invest in politicians for a reason.
It's your basic "beck and call," as in "bought and paid for."
