Parents asked if newborn babies identify as transgender

Parents are asked if their newborn babies identify as transgender on a form that is required under New Jersey state law, it has been claimed. A form distributed by several hospitals asks parents about their newborn baby's gender identity and sexual orientation. Lawmakers said that the form was not required to be filled out for patients so young, however, the group which represents the hospitals distributing the form insisted it was a legal requirement. The form asks parents a number of questions, including: "Do you identify your baby as a transgender male/ trans man/ female to male", other options include "genderqueer" or an "additional gender category", and if the baby is lesbian or gay, heterosexual, "self-describes" or is "questioning/unsure".

No different than you deciding someone else's gender for then, regardless of what they think.

They can't see that those are both the same problem: Someone other than the individual deciding who they are.

Republicans can't stand personal freedom when it comes to gender identity. They want the State to declare everyone's gender.

If the linked news article (to the UK's "2024 News Website of the Year," whatever that means) isn't good enough for you, you could run an Internet search. Which would turn up links to other sites, like this one:

The law doesn't state that because if it did Inspira wouldn't say the following:

A statement that Inspira Health sent to Action News seems to reflect recent distinctions and clarification on the part of the hospital's implementation of the law. The statement reads in part, "Inspira Health will request this information from adults. This update in protocol remains compliant with the law."

So some hospital group, Inspira Health, decided to use the same words/form for every patient like morons. Not exactly confidence inspiring when it comes to care!

The general point, though, is correct. If you can't say this is stupid you're part of the problem. It is genuinely stupid to ask those kinds of questions about a newborn, IMHO.

It's also a non-story other than the stupidity of those in charge that implemented this nonsense.

Of course.
Those were simpler times.
Specifically, that was before Republicans identified the security threat posed to us by transgender Americans.

"twisting things to defend a stupid position." I guess. The stupidity I'm calling out is people who think they can force their kids to choose the gender identity the parents are hoping for.

This is typically why kids run away - because their parents reject them for being gay or trans or otherwise not living up to the parents expectations. Surely as a parent you've heard about kids who run away or kill themselves because their parents don't accept them.

Surely you've heard about the parents who are so awful their kids choose life on the streets over life in a toxic home. Or choose death.

It's every parents nightmare. And it's a nightmare created by the parents for their own kids. Because Republicans parents understand Empathy is the biggest threat to Western Civilization.

I have never had to "declare" my daughters sexual/gender preferences. Have you? Have you ever had to express your child's preference?

The law requesting this information is an amendment to demographic information gathered from a patient. There has been newborn demographic questions before this.

The purpose is not to offend the patient, or the parents.

Its perfectly reasonable to request this information when the world gets offended if you don't properly address individuals. I can imagine some parent being offended if BLUE was used on a transgender female baby. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if someone would sue the hospital as trying to discriminate because of it.

So sorry, not stupid and not moronic, its the by product of hysterically extreme people, like yourself.

Trans is such an important Republican boogey-man.... it involves nearly 2 percent of the population, and almost a full half a percent are adults.

Left to responsible citizens, parents, kids, medical experts, all these issues could be addressed apolitically and objectively.

But, noooo.... like the Great Immigrant Cat Eating Scandal, this also is more important than things like, I dunno... democracy and the Rule of Law in this country, and the arrogant evil that currently occupies the WH.

Let's just destroy that using your own link, shall we?
First, let's start with the most obvious problem:
NO CHILDREN were in the study you linked.

Second: The suicide rate was not compared to transgender that did not have surgery, but rather against those that went to the emergency room for any reason. The study compared those that had gender assignment surgery against those that had a vasectomy, and lumped those with tubal litigation in with those that had gender reassignment surgery. That is just flat out crazy.

Third: The only point this "study" made was that "Individuals who underwent gender-affirming surgery had a 12.12-fold higher suicide attempt risk than those who did not."

Fourth: The study never indicates or compares that suicide rate to transgender that did not have gender affirming surgery.
