President Donald Trump's tariffs have led to an apparent run on vehicles as consumers try to make their purchases before the duties take effect.

But one company in particular isn't cashing in on the surge: Elon Musk's Tesla.[image or embed]

Crocodile tears for Musk.

When will Tesla's board fire him for sinking the company? It's so obvious. Sales in Europe are down 40-60% depending in the country. Chinese are buying homemade EVs from one of 21 homemade EV manufacturers.

I saw a Cybertruck drive past today and thought, "what a moron, paying over $100,000 for that ugly beast?"

Tesla sales (Q1)

China 21.8%
Germany 62%
California 15%
United States (total) 9%

Every other EV is up, total EV sales are up. This is the 6th straight quarterly decrease in CA

There's a reason every other company fired Elon as CEO" Jenny (@jenjams.bsky.social) April 16, 2025 at 9:30 PM

Musk is our Henry Ford. You know, that Nazi guy who made cars.

Don't worry. Eventually, Musk and Trump will dictate that people have to buy Teslas.

#6 | Posted by jpw at 2025-04-18 10:37 AM

Kind of explains why tesla claimed to have sold 8000 cars in 72 hours in Canada to claim millions in subsidies but I wonder where else they're padding sales numbers.

@#5 ... Musk is our Henry Ford. You know, that Nazi guy who made cars. ...

You're gonna need to provide more details on that one.

Oh, wait ...

Henry Ford
en.wikipedia.org

... Ford was known for his pacifism during the first years of World War I, although during the war his company became a major supplier of weapons. He promoted the League of Nations.

In the 1920s Ford promoted antisemitism through his newspaper The Dearborn Independent and the book The International Jew.

He opposed his country's entry into World War II, and served for a time on the board of the America First Committee. ...

America First Committee
en.wikipedia.org

... The America First Committee (AFC) was an American isolationist pressure group against the United States' entry into World War II.[1][2] Launched in September 1940, it surpassed 800,000 members in 450 chapters at its peak.[3] The AFC principally supported isolationism for its own sake, and its varied coalition included Republicans, Democrats, farmers, industrialists, communists, anti-communists, students, and journalists " however, it was controversial for the anti-Semitic and pro-fascist views of some of its most prominent speakers, leaders, and members.[4][5][6][7] ...

I had not.

But then I read the #5 comment.

And I learned things.

Wow.

Forget about Musk and his cars.

I have a feeling Musk will go the way of Mike Lindell once Trump is impeached. Well, maybe not completely, but at least knocked down a peg or two.

Nor do I think impeachment of both Trump and Vance is out of the question. Or Trump impeached and Vance forced to resign.

Think for a moment who would benefit the most, politically from a back-door conspiracy among corporate CEOs and the GOP to rid the party of this maniac gone amok.

Speaker Johnson comes to mind.

Food for thought.

@#11 ... Food for thought. ...

More nutrition ...

The GOP base still seems to be largely, and significantly, in Pres Trump's support.

Until that changes, the Constitution is stuck.

I'm kinda hoping that GOP members of both Houses come to realize that they have to get rid of Trump to save themselves. Maybe the mid-terms will tell the story . . . . IF Trump hasn't seized control of elections by then.

Anyway, I have a feeling that when we get to the end of this fiasco it will be one for the history books.

@#13 ... I'm kinda hoping that GOP members of both Houses come to realize that they have to get rid of Trump to save themselves. ...

Yeah, as you note, the mid-terms could be interesting.

imo, the recent spate of Democratic-led Town Halls is sending a warning to the GOP. A GOP that seems to be actively avoiding Town Halls because they do not want to face their constituents.

Speaker Johnson tells GOP lawmakers to skip town halls. (March 2025)
apnews.com

... House Speaker Mike Johnson is encouraging Republican lawmakers to skip town halls that have been filled with protesters decrying the Trump administration's slashing of federal government, echoing the president's claims that the demonstration's are fueled by professional protesters.

The speaker's advice Tuesday comes as GOP lawmakers often find themselves at a loss to explain the cuts, led by billionaire Elon Musk'sDepartment of Government Efficiency, that are leaving federal workers suddenly out of jobs in communities from coast to coast. Democrats are jumping in to shine a bright light on what is happening. ...

But, will that last through 2026?

Who knows.

Whether or not that 15% tax break makes it into the budget will test the loyalty of Trump's monied corporate base. Johnson is facing some serious headwinds.

No tickee, no washee!

@#15 ... Johnson is facing some serious headwinds. ...

Possibly.

The dozen or so Republicans that seem to have deserted him lately have originally voted (twice!) in favor of what they seem to be telling their constituents during the recess.

So, when, the bowel meets the bladder, who knows how they will vote.

@#4 ... Tesla speeds up odometers to avoid warranty repairs, US lawsuit claims ...

Not to worry.

Mr Musk will likely do away with the department bringing on this lawsuit.

#17 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-04-19 02:35 AM

Oops, spoke too soon ...

The link is about a class-action lawsuit, not a Federal lawsuit.

From the article in #4 ...

... Tesla faces a proposed class action claiming it speeds up odometers on its electric vehicles so they fall out of warranty faster, saving Elon Musk's company from having to pay for repairs.

The plaintiff Nyree Hinton alleged that Tesla odometer readings reflect energy consumption, driver behavior and "predictive algorithms" rather than actual mileage driven.

He said the odometer on the 2020 Model Y he bought in December 2022 with 36,772 miles on the clock ran at least 15% fast, based on his other vehicles and driving history, and for a while said he drove 72 miles a day when at most he drove 20.

Hinton, a Los Angeles resident, said this caused his 50,000-mile basic warranty to expire well ahead of schedule, leaving him with a $10,000 suspension repair bill that he thought Tesla should cover. ...
