Supreme Court Bestirs Itself

Yup ... "it is now or never for the Supreme Court to decide if we are a nation of laws, or a nation run by a lawless bully."

My money is on "run by a lawless bully".

If Roberts and Coney Barrett defect from the star chamber to affirm Rule of Law it will be surprising.

Stranger things have happened.

Reason for cautious optimism.

Some nations in South and Central America Banana Republics copied the US Constitution pretty much word for word. And then nobody paid attention to it. Presidents and different Congresses ignored it. The courts of those nations did not enforce it. But it was all on paper as "the law". Just a big farce.

Obviously, instead of them becoming more like us, the US has become a lot more like them.

There's not a doubt in my mind that the Roberts Supreme Court will give Trump a green light every chance they get if it's at all possible to twist wording of the Constitution in Trump's favor.

This just isn't one of those times.

while Trump wants to blast his way into a Dictatorship, Roberts is taking a more tempered approach.

My guess is that they both have each other on speed dial.

Unfortunately, I have absolutely no confidence in this SC upholding America against the president. Some have been bought and paid for years in advance of this situation. Some, like many in the congress, are afraid for the lives of themselves and their families. Americans on both sides are watching and waiting to see what happens if the president actually ignores the court. If he does, and congress does not step in, I think our republic may be doomed. It has happened before in other places, it can happen here.

The SCOTUS doesn't have an enforcement branch. They can issue directives but depend on the Executive Branch or the DOJ to carry them out.

I do note the apparent deflection of the lack of due process to remove him.

Trying now to assert now that there is no due process to return him.

Asked differently, if your current alias asserts there is no due process to return him, it does seem to implicitly admit that due process is a thing.

A thing that the Supreme Court asserted in its 9-0 decision.

What was the due process to send him to El Salvador?

It is then upon Congress to impeach him. If they don't do their duty, they are ceding to dictatorship. As that's what I expect to happen, our representative republic is dead.
