Yale Mates Warn Sec Bessent Enabling Descent Into Fascism

"Scott, please take a moment to step back, look down the road a piece, and think hard about whether you want to be responsible for enabling the descent of America into fascism," says the letter, which is dated Wednesday.

Here's what is keeping me up tonight. Until last Monday, Scott Bessent & Trump seemed not to know or be in denial about supply crisis that was about to hit. Since then, including today, Bessent was all happy talk, as if this crisis starting ~2 weeks isn't coming. www.cbsnews.com/news/walmart ...

"Be brave. Stand up for what you know to be right and be a voice of reason in the midst of this insanity," the letter says.

It argues that "so many" of the actions of President Donald Trump and his second administration are unconstitutional and undermine the principles of democracy.

As of Friday, 140 members of the Yale Class of 1984 have signed the online letter to Bessent, a member of that class. He is also a former adjunct professor at the university, where he taught economic history."
;

"The new letter to Bessent also cites "blatant conflicts of interest such as the Trumps' meme coins and Trump Media and Technology Group's investment accounts which are poised to move in sync with the administration's whimsical tariff decisions."

;

The Sec, of course, is only listening to his Cult Leader... and making out like the Bandit he is.

"Be brave. Stand up for what you know to be right and be a voice of reason in the midst of this insanity," the letter says

He wasn't selected for his bravery or his courage to stand up.

He was selected because he's willing to toe the line.

Should he choose not to, Trump will select someone else to do it.

He is being brave already. The last 40 years have brought the US failure even by the Democrat's own admission on income inequality. The cowardly thing to do is to simply continue those policies - keep creating legions of homeless and a shrinking middle class while ballooning the debt. I am glad to see he and Trump actually implementing policies that will finally re-grow the middle class in the US.

@#3 ... He is being brave already. ...

I agree.

Sec Bessent has already been brave in giving Pres Trump alternate opinions.

imo, that is why Pres Trump seems to have capriciously abandoned Mr Navarro's tariff directives, and has put his tail between his legs in a major retreat.

But, how long will Pres Trump listen to Sec Bessent, and how much does Sec Bessent have to kiss up to Pres Trump to stay inside that inner ring of advisors?

The last 40 years have brought the US failure even by the Democrat's own admission on income inequality.

Reaganomics, followed by the BushJr tax cuts, followed by the Trump tax cuts. Coupled with massively moving manufacturing jobs out of the country and stock market manipulation. Are what caused income inequality.

Republicans fighting against raising minimum wages and killing off unions are what contributed to income inequality.

Republicans cutting social services for the poor and shoveling subsidies into the pockets of the wealthy caused income inequality.

Republicans are killing America.

In what alternative world did that occur? Trump is negotiating the tariffs as he negotiates everything else - and has destroyed China in the process.

You probably missed this: "April 25 (Reuters) - China has exempted some U.S. imports from its 125% tariffs and is asking firms to identify critical goods they need levy-free, according to businesses that have been notified, in the clearest sign yet of Beijing's concerns about the trade war's fallout."
www.reuters.com

This comes after Xi's failed tour of Asia where none of the countries agreed to continue with the fraudulent trans-shipping trade to hide China as the country of origin:

www.scmp.com

"Vietnam's trade ministry has issued a directive to crack down on illegal transshipment of goods to the United States and other trading partners as it tries to avoid steep US tariffs."

Exhibit A in Democrats shielding themselves from reality. Is that a skill you learned at your pretend law school?

#8 | Posted by ScottS at 2025-04-27 07:33 PM

@#6 ... Trump is negotiating the tariffs as he negotiates everything else - and has destroyed China in the process. ...

If Pres Trump has destroyed China, then why does Pres Trump say that he is talking with Pres Xi, and Pres Xi is saying that there have been no such discussions between the US and China on tariffs?

Also, when Pres Trump was asked by the press, multiple times, when he talked to Pres Xi, Pres Trump could not provide an answer, other than he has talked with Pres Xi in the past?

China's Pres Xi is ghosting Pres Trump. Pres Xi seems to be playing the long game, as opposed to Pres Trump's short-term, transactional game.

If, as your current alias seems to assert, Pres Trump's position is so strong, why does he seem to be lying about things surrounding that position?

@#8 ... Exhibit A in Democrats shielding themselves from reality. ...

How so?

Please be specific.

#10 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-04-27 07:42 PM

"If Pres Trump has destroyed China, then why does Pres Trump say that he is talking with Pres Xi, and Pres Xi is saying that there have been no such discussions between the US and China on tariffs?"

Because the Chinese, per usual, are lying as they know braindead liberals will just run with their talking points. Why does China report robust GDP growth despite their tax receipts falling? - because they lie.

"Also, when Pres Trump was asked by the press, multiple times, when he talked to Pres Xi"

If you think US trade negotiators are not meeting with Chinese trade negotiators, you are not worth discussing this topic with further. BOTH SIDES - don't want to appear weak. In the case of Xi, he is facing internal unrest which could topple the CCP or his control of it - and people that lose control in China don't just slip into retirement - they wind up in jail or dead. He has a lot more on the line in maintaining his public image.

"China's Pres Xi is ghosting Pres Trump. Pres Xi seems to be playing the long game, as opposed to Pres Trump's short-term, transactional game."

Xi is folding like a cheap suit - he is exempting products across industries because they are essential goods for China and as I pointed out before, their alternative is not eating and not having electricity. Worse, due to the US not taking Chinese exports, they have been re-routed for internal consumptions setting off deflation in the country.

"If, as your current alias seems to assert, Pres Trump's position is so strong, why does he seem to be lying about things surrounding that position?

SEEM TO BE - listening to yourself.

#11 | Posted by ScottS at 2025-04-27 08:01 PM

@#11 ... Because the Chinese, per usual, are lying ...

If the Chinese were lying, then Pres Trump should have been able to provide evidence of the phone calls.

But he provided no such evidence.

Unless, of course, he used Signal to talk with Pres Xi, and the chat transcripts were quickly deleted. That seems to be a thing in his administration of late.

So, the basic premise of your current alias' comment, "China is lying," seems to be lacking in substantiation.

Trump is president - he is not on the drudge retort where he needs to prove anything. Frankly, he does not care if the unwashed masses believe him or not - trade negotiations have been underway for weeks already.

#13 | Posted by ScottS at 2025-04-27 08:36 PM

@#13 ... Trump is president - he is not on the drudge retort where he needs to prove anything. ...

I agree, he is not on Drudge Report.

But, he is President.

So, he should not lie and prevaricate as he so frequently does.

The press asked Pres Trump a simple question ... when did you last talk with Pres Xi?

Pres Trump was not able to give a direct answer to that question.

So, given Pres Trump's documented history of lying, I have to ask, why does your current alias still seem to believe what he says?

#14 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-04-27 08:47 PM

"So, he should not lie and prevaricate as he so frequently does.
The press asked Pres Trump a simple question ... when did you last talk with Pres Xi?
#14 | Posted by LampLighter"

He owes the press NOTHING. Again, if you think the US and China don't have teams talking and negotiating right now, you are too stupid to continue this conversation.

#15 | Posted by ScottS at 2025-04-27 08:48 PM

Xi isn't talking to Trump. Trum has screwed it up. He's incompetent.

#16 | Posted by Zed at 2025-04-27 09:03 PM

"#16 | Posted by Zed"

Which is why Xi is folding like a cheap suit as the Chinese economy collapses, he is facing protests in China, and his trading partners are following the US and banning Chinese trans-shipments. Sorry, Xi and your home country of Canada will bend the knee - and you will like it.

#17 | Posted by ScottS at 2025-04-27 09:49 PM

No one cares, no one that matters anyways.

#18 | Posted by Bluewaffles at 2025-04-27 10:13 PM

@#15 ... He owes the press NOTHING. ...

Really?

The President of the United States has no obligation to tell the press anything?

Why that sudden change?

#19 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-04-28 12:56 AM

@#16 ... Xi isn't talking to Trump. ...

That seems to be what all the news reports have been saying.

Trump says China's Xi called him amid ongoing confusion over trade talks
www.foxnews.com

... Did they or didn't they?

President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday that he has spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping "many times" but did not say if any of those communications took place since he imposed stiff tariffs on the communist nation.

Asked for details about those communications, Trump responded by saying "I'll let you know at the appropriate time." ...

So, Pres Trump has nothing to substantiate his assertions.

Lying?

Wow, that would be so unusual for Pres trump to do. /s

"The President of the United States has no obligation to tell the press anything?
#19 | Posted by LampLighter"

No, he doesn't. And after how the press conducted themselves with Biden, they really don't deserve the right to ask. For all of 2023 and 2024 - we have no idea who was actually running the country. Biden's brain was gone - and no questions from the press on it. In fact, they covered for him. On Ashley's diary and the inappropriate showers - not a single question asked on it. On Hunter's pardon - not a single question asked on it or calling him out for lying directly to their faces. The legacy press in the US is a joke - they deserve nothing.
