Hard to say if the ASOS being out was THE problem but it sure sounds like it contributed. I feel bad for the guy/gal who used to maintain it. If it turns out to be a contributing factor and when the maga media uncovers his/her name "they" is toast. As is the person who was supposed to file the NOTAM.

Though it's probably not even their fault. They probably were under such pressure and restrictions placed by Trumpy- like a slashed budget slashed workforce or reduced staff no credit cards or travel allowed etc that it probably prevented them from responding appropriately.
