Trump Wants to Stop Mail in Voting and Voting Machines

President Trump announced Monday on his social media site, Truth Social, that he plans to "lead a movement" to get rid of mail-in ballots and voting machines in the country ahead of next year's midterm elections.

Absentee ballots have chain of custody

Mail in ballots like those in CA don't.

It's pretty simple, but clearly beyond your education level.

They obviously don't care. It's how to rig the system in order to stay in power. They don't have a good policy so they cheat to win.

Absentee ballots go through the same mail service that mail in ballots do. There's no difference between the two.

"get rid of mail-in ballots and voting machines"

David Frum saw this coming seven years ago. David Frum, a former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, stated in 2018 that
If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy.

We are seeing Republicans reject democracy before our very eyes.

One,

"Absentee ballots have chain of custody
Mail in ballots like those in CA don't.
It's pretty simple, but clearly beyond your education level."

Correct.

Absentee ballots have always carried some inherent risks, but because they are limited in scale, those risks have never been large enough to alter an election outcome.

Mass mail-in voting is a different story. Expanding that system to millions of ballots magnifies every weak spot such as lack of chain of custody , lost ballots, and the potential for mishandling due to human error or even fraud.

Moving millions of uncounted ballots without tight custody controls is an open invitation for disaster. Suppose a truck or an airliner carrying hundreds of thousands of uncounted ballots crashed and burned.

Presidential elections demand the highest level of trust and reliability. The only method that provides both is in person early voting, where custody and verification are built in.

"Mass mail-in voting is a different story. Expanding that system to millions of ballots magnifies every weak spot such as lack of chain of custody , lost ballots, and the potential for mishandling due to human error or even fraud."

It's been five years. Why has NO ONE come forward with your scenario?

If your theory was correct, they'd be coming out of the woodwork, ESPECIALLY after a close election.

Why has NO ONE come forward, when they'd have every reason to speak up? There are only two options: they're complicit, or you're making bullschitt claims without a scintilla of proof.

Neither of us believe they were complicit.

#20 | Posted by Danforth at 2025-08-19 11:04 AM

Regarding voting machines, some are still in use that lack a verifiable paper trail.

Those machines should be banned outright.

Most states are moving away from them and adopting systems where voters mark a paper ballot, feed it into a scanner, and can watch their vote being recorded.

When combined with early voting, this system solves most of the logistical problems of getting people to the polls on time, while also improving accessibility and strengthening public trust thus preventing the kind of doubt and chaos that fueled January 6.

#21 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-08-19 11:07 AM

""Absentee ballots have chain of custody. Mail in ballots like those in CA don't."

Bald-faced lie. Absentee Ballots ARE mail-in ballots. Same chain of custody, for both.

You're pretending an absentee ballot isn't subject to what you assume mail-in ballots are subject. That's either hubris, or ignorance.

Oregon has had mail-in ballots for 30 years; never a whiff of fraud. Military has been doing it for over a century and a half.

Where are the fraud cases from these long-standing systems? Or, more to the point, if this is so rampant, WHY CAN'T YOU FIND ONE CASE?

"Just because you don't get it, doesn't mean you're right."

What I get it, it's been five years, and STILL no one agrees with you enough to come forward and say it happened to them.

ZERO.

Just like your proof.

And being a math guy, I know with odds like that, where TENS OF THOUSANDS WERE DEFRAUDED, BUT NO ONE SPOKE UP, the only conclusion is: the fraud didn't happen on any scale but the usual garden-variety of someone voting for their dead mother-in-law.

Just because YOU don't get it, doesn't mean you're right.

If the fact NO ONE has come forward doesn't ----- you, you're too stupid for self-analysis.

#27 | Posted by Danforth at 2025-08-19 11:15 AM

"It's a matter of scale."

And the scale had to be so large (tens of thousands of votes), the victims would've identified themselves by now.

How many stories you can link do you have so far?

If that number is zero, please have the human dignity to admit it.

#30 | Posted by eberly at 2025-08-19 11:27 AM

"What is tolerable in small numbers breaks down when you expand it to millions."

Tens of thousands isn't a small number.

And the story would be a simple one: I got a mail-in ballot, and my (roommate/sibling/parent) took it, and voted for Biden.

After a close election, folks would've come out of the woodwork in droves, all telling the same story. Even if 99% of the victims never made a peep, that'd be HUNDREDS of victims coming forward.

Instead, after five years, we've seen ZERO voters make your claim.

Statistics and human nature teach us at least SOME of the tens of thousands would speak up. The fact NO ONE has come forward, 5 years later, and you're still clinging to an impossible scenario, just makes you look clueless.

Or worse: like you're purposely bearing false witness, for a political purpose.

Jesus wept.

Dear Hostile Foreign Agitator,

Thanks for your advice on our democratic processes. We will file it appropriately in the circular file.

FYI - absentee ballots are exactly the same as mail-in ballots. The only difference is the justification.

Absentee ballots are granted for reasons.

Mail-in like those in CA don't require any reasons.

Otherwise they are handled via the post office with bar codes and signature verification exactly the same.

This is a topic everyone should be ignoring completely. No matter what any argument is, the simple fact is that both parties will love this system when it works for them and then fight against it when it isn't. This is one of those topics that shouldn't live in anyone's mind. Once an election happens where a large portion of mail-in voters vote Republican and Dems lose because of it, Dems will do everything they can to eliminate/regulate it.

The GOP spent millions supporting mail ballots. Now Trump's attacking them again.
www.politico.com

... Republicans poured tens of millions of dollars last year into convincing their voters that casting ballots by mail was safe after Trump spent years bashing the practice and baselessly insisting it was rife with fraud. And it worked, with GOP voters closing or even reversing the mail voting gap with Democrats in several states.

But now Trump is attacking mail voting again as he ratchets up his push to protect Republicans' House majority in the midterms, scrambling a strategy Republicans effectively used to bank millions of votes in 2024. ...

Republicans made significant strides in 2024 toward closing what had been a Democratic advantage in mail voting four years prior, even as the overall share of voters casting ballots by mail fell 13 percentage points from 2020, when the pandemic changed voting habits.

In North Carolina, Republicans narrowly outpaced Democrats in mail ballots cast in 2024, a reversal from four years prior, when Democrats banked a more than 250,000-voter advantage among mail ballots. (Trump won the state both times.) Republicans similarly returned to their advantage among mail-in votes in Arizona, which has allowed any voter to request a mail ballot since the early 1990s.

And in Pennsylvania, state data shows GOP voters accounted for 32 percent of mail ballots in 2024, when Trump won the state, up from 25 percent in 2020, when he narrowly lost to Joe Biden. ...

Dan,

Great...we may not have experienced a major problem yet....

However, moving around uncounted ballots is a disaster waiting to happen.

Building in labor intensive checks and balances to accommodate large scale mailed in ballots makes little sense.

You still couldn't be as reliable as in person voting and you could vote early.

Filling out a ballot that is read on the stop is the only voting method that should be used for something as serious as deciding the President of a country as powerful as the United States.

Sorry if you can't accept this.
