@#6

Yup.

I also noticed in that video the analog tape recorders using 10 1/2 reels of 2 inch wide audio tape.

I have such a reel of audio tape upstairs on a shelf.

I have no idea what is on that reel of tape.

I obtained the reel back nearly 5 decades ago when I worked for a record company. The company at the time was cleaning up ~stuff~ and that reel of tape was destined for the trash. The reel was in an odd place in the building, I was curious about it. So I asked the appropriate Manager if I could have it. He said,, "take it."

As I said, I have no idea of what may be on that reel of audio tape, but it was from a major record label back then.

I have no means to listen to that tape, as my tape players were all 1/4 inch consumer types.

Oh well...

lemme just drop this performance here:

" I have no means to listen to that tape"

Find one. Call local (old) recording studios to see if they have the equipment, and if not, who they think might. Failing that, try to buy a player on FB Marketplace, and use the tape for the test run.

And please let us know the outcome.

#10 | Posted by Danforth at 2025-07-25 08:11 PM

@#10 ... Find one ...

I did that with a similarly-attained 1/2 inch 7 inch reel of tape.

Back then, I knew someone in the industry.

Turns out, the tape was a video recording of an old Johnny Cash concert.

So, I contacted the Johnny Cash Museum and asked them if they wanted the donation ...

Yeah, I may start down that path again ...

www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...

genius.com

...
You were wrong
You were right
And you are gone
Tonight

You were free
So alive
You were wrong
You were right

And you were down
You could see
And you wore hearts
For me

And you were sharp
Sharp as knives
You were wrong
You were right
...

(I did not know, before i heard this tune, that "five for fighting" was an ice hockey term.)

@#18 ... An amazing music show. ...

I did not know ...

Austin City Limits
en.wikipedia.org

... Austin City Limits is an American live music television program recorded and produced by Austin PBS.

The show helped Austin become widely known in the United States as the "Live Music Capital of the World",[1] and is the only television show to receive the National Medal of Arts, which it was awarded in 2003.[2]

It also won a rare institutional Peabody Award in 2011 "for its more than three decades of presenting and preserving eclectic American musical genres".[3] ...

Bleachers - Modern Girl (2023)

And, if I may add, the lead singer of the Bleachers was a member of the band Fun which appeared on an Austin City Limits show in January of 2014.

Lemme see if I can find it ...

@#20

OK, PBS now seems to be only offering a couple minute "preview" of that amazing show, instead of the full show they used to offer.

@#23 ... You don't know Austin City Limits? ...

As I stated in #18 ...

I've been enjoying that show for decades.

What I did not know was the accolades that the show has earned.

And, imo, rightfully so.

Now, let's get back to the tunes ...

Lives in the Balance - Jackson Browne, David Crosby, Graham Nash, David Lindley (on the oud, a Bronze Age Persian/Iranian string instrument)

www.youtube.com

I've been waiting for something to happen
For a week or a month or a year
With the blood in the ink of the headlines
And the sound of the crowd in my ear

You might ask what it takes to remember
When you know that you've seen it before
Where a government lies to a people
And a country is drifting to war

There's a shadow on the faces
Of the men who send the guns
To the wars that are fought in places
Where their business interest runs

On the radio talk shows and the TV
You hear one thing again and again
How the USA stands for freedom
And we come to the aid of a friend

But who are the ones that we call our friends?
These governments killing their own?
Or the people who finally can't take any more
And they pick up a gun or a brick or a stone

And there are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons
(There are) and there is blood on the wire

.

There's a shadow on the faces
Of the men who fan the flames
Of the wars that are fought in places
We can't even say the names

They sell us the President, the same way
They sell us our clothes and our cars
They sell us every thing, from youth to religion
The same time they sell us our wars

I want to know who the men in the shadows are
I want to hear somebody asking them why
They can be counted on to tell us who our enemies are
But they're never the ones to fight or to die

And there are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons
(There are) and there is blood on the wire

Songwriters: Jackson Browne (1986)

Things staying the same.

@#26 ... Focus 3 (not the frantic mess that is Hocus Pocus) ...

I do not disagree.

Hocus Pocus, from their second album ("Hocus Pocus II", better know as "Moving Waves" internationally (see Wikipedia link below) was an interesting one.

Yeah, that tune ...

Moving Waves
en.wikipedia.org

... "Hocus Pocus" is a rock song that features van Leer yodelling, eefing, scat singing, and whistling.

The song was written as a rock parody, and it was recorded for the album as it lacked any "outright rock" tracks at that point.

The group wanted to incorporate an element of humour in the track because they felt it was missing in the rock genre.[6] ...

Fun tune ...

Dickies - Killer Klowns (From Outer Space) (1988)
www.youtube.com

That's the title song of the movie of the same name.

The movie is, I'll be kind, not a Grade A movie. But, imo, it is a fun, albeit odd, one to watch.

Fun stuff.
