Someone should remind the senile old fool that he's the one who gave it up in the first place. It was his administration that negotiated the exit from Afghanistan.

Seems pretty dumb for him to tell this to the world. He said during the presser that we want it because it's near where China is building nukes. By stating this publicly he gave China reason to up the pressure on Afghanistan to reject turning over the base to US. He also gave Afghanistan leverage in negotiations with us because if he's going to look like a failure if we do not receive the base.
