British Columbia Will End Time Changes, Adopt Year-Round Daylight Time

On March 8 British Columbia, the westernmost province of Canada, will change their clock for the last time.

This is big news-- "British Columbia to end time changes, adopt year-round daylight time. March 8 will be the last time British Columbians have to change their clocks, premier announces." Wasn't that important to me, but I support no more time changes. So we'll be on permanent PDT, Seattle won't be.

More from the article ...

... Most British Columbians will change their clocks for the last time this Sunday.

B.C. is permanently adopting daylight time, making its "spring forward" on March 8 the last time change, Premier David Eby announced Monday.

"We are done waiting. British Columbia is going to change our clocks just one more time " and then never again," Eby said.

He said changing the clocks causes "all types of problems," from children and their parents losing sleep, to dogs getting up at the wrong time, to more car accidents. ...

How long before the United States follows our great friends to the north and adapts a year-round time standard that does not involve time shifts?

Brit Col CA? It's BC, ffs.

And also ..dogs getting up at the "wrong" time??? WTF?

@#3 ... Brit Col CA? It's BC, ffs. ...

Yeah.

As I was posting that, I wondered if just noting BC would cause confusion.

That's why I went with Brit. Col.,CA.

Of course, then that leads to a confusion with California.

So many abbreviations, so little time ...

:)

@#4 ... And also ..dogs getting up at the "wrong" time??? WTF? ...

Yeah, that seems to be an issue when DST becomes the year-round standard.

What are the effects of that?

Here in CT, there seems to be a loud voice expressing a concern about school children suddenly having to be at the bus-stops in darkness.

Idiotic idea.

@#7

I'm of two conflicting views at this point.

While one side of me looks at the health issues caused by the time shift...

Another side of me looks at the annoyance of the time change.

At this point, here in the US, I would just wish we settle upon one way to go forward.

And adapt to it as our Country has always done to problems it faces.

I agree. But if they pick one, it should be standard time, not stupid daylight time.

@#9 ... But if they pick one ...

I do not care which one is chosen.

My view ...

Chose one, either of the two.

Then let the people adapt to the new paradigm going forward.

" Brit Col CA? It's BC, ffs."

Yeah. Before I opened the thread, I thought Britain, Colorado and California had dropped DST.

" But if they pick one, it should be standard time, not stupid daylight time.

Ugh. Morning people.

My father in law kept his clocks on daylight savings time year round.

The only time it was an issue was when we were scheduling to meet somewhere usually for dinner.

"is that 4 your time or our time"

You always had to make sure.

One can only hope this country does the same thing, sooner or later. Wish we had a national system of initiatives that we could circulate petitions and get such a thing on the national ballots.

OK by me. BC is beautiful. If I could move to Victoria today, I would...

They have always been a head of their time.
