China has a trade agreement with Pres Trump. They believed him when he agreed to that.

The issue here seems to be that China may want to discuss other things beside trade at the summit.

But all Pres Trump seems to care about are trade deals.

So, Pres Trump seems to want to be going into the summit with no preparation, and just ~winging it.~

Doubtless the Chinese are pinching themselves, scarcely able to believe their great and good fortune in being presented with an actual bumbling idiot as an adversary. The Chinese will be on hand, prepared, over prepared, ready to go while Old Yeller stumbles around, searching for a verbal superlative beyond "very."

Trump tore up the previous Iranian agreement which led to this insane war, and so one can only expect that our demented "dear leader" is going to make sure his time on the world stage is remembered, either any and all bend and grovel, or he will take his marbles, those that are left, and go home. Why prepare for what other people want...it is all about him, and his fall from reality.
MAGA did this and now even they cannot fix it. The Bull in the China Shop is on the loose.
