Trump VA Killed a Home Loan Program, Now Vets Losing Their Homes

More than 10,000 veterans lost their homes to foreclosure since May of last year, when the Trump administration shut down a key safety net in the VA home loan program, according to the latest industry data.

Trump was warned this would happen. He did it anyway. Now, over 10,000 Veterans lost their homes. 90,000 more are on track for foreclosure. On top of cutting jobs, slashing benefits and throwing our heroes into an unnecessary war. The most anti-Veteran President in history.

There is a case to be made that Donald Trump considers our veteran servicemen as being dogs,

Veterans. What have they done for us lately?

I guess I'm not shocked but I didn't even know a VA loan gave more protections to a borrower in the event they fall behind on payments than a traditional mortgage.

"Vets now losing their homes."

This is what I voted for.

"More than 10,000 veterans lost their homes"

Surely we can get that number up to 100,000 by the start of Trump's third term.

So Much Winning!

Making these dumb, loser Veterans become homeless is how we Make America Great Again.

Well ya know... that's just 10% of all foreclosures.

Furthermorrrrreeeeeee...
Veterans have access to a lot of financial counseling when taking out a VA-backed loan. More than most civilians. They don't go under contract while being stupid.

jus' sayin'

Like millions of other Americans, the Queens took advantage of what's called a COVID mortgage forbearance, which allowed homeowners to skip mortgage payments. It was set up by Congress after the pandemic hit for people who lost income.

During a government shutdown I almost fell for this trap. I can see how many would fall for it.
We were all told (I may even have it in writing somewhere) that we could skip six months of payments. And once we get back on our feet ( get paid again) we could start paying again and wouldn't owe the missed payments in a big lump sum.

"I very specifically asked 'how does this work?'" says Becky Queen. "They said we're taking all of your payments, we're bundling them, and we're putting them at the end."

That's exactly what I was told. Only I did not believe them. Unfortunately. Millions of Americans did.

What program was shut down? You read stories like this with no details about the loans or terms or benefits they used. I used a VA loan, it didn't lower my payment though, I just didn't have use a down payment.

In other words, you can't read.

"Once it was finally up and running by early 2025, the VA's rescue program, VASP, was starting to save large numbers of vets and their families from foreclosure. It gave more than 33,000 veterans who were behind on their payments new, low-cost mortgages with an interest rate of 2.5%.

But only months after VASP was fully functional and helping vets on that scale, the Trump administration had taken office and killed it."

Or if you're trump, sell it to russian oligarchs for way over its value so they can launder their money.

"Trump has no use for the concept of 'service.' He doesn't care about active-duty troops, he doesn't care about veterans, he doesn't care about those who have fallen. The only thing that matters to Donald is money. Donald Trump knows nothing about service. In fact, he has contempt for it. He deferred his service in Vietnam five times using a fictional injury as an excuse because he is and always has been a coward."

@#14 ... Trump has no use for the concept of 'service.' He doesn't care about active-duty troops, he doesn't care about veterans, he doesn't care about those who have fallen.

The only thing that matters to Donald is money. ...

I cannot disagree.

And, fwiw, Dr Mary Trump is a psychologist.
