To be fair, maybe we should give it a shot. Might be an improvement over the status quo.

Pure speculation on my part, but observing the impact humanity has had on the planet in the last 30,000 years, maybe the AI figured we're going to kill each other off one way or the other anyway.

So the AI figured it's best to rip that band-aid off quickly and allow Earth to get back to its routine.

Faces with what non western nations are faced with, nuclear war is understandable.
