San Francisco's only Denny's restaurant has permanently closed after more than two decades in operation, according to reports. The business, which was one of the few 24-hour restaurants left in the city, closed this month at 816 Mission St., according to SFGATE. "The cost of doing business is tremendous. There's vandalism, and people come and eat and walk away, and there's no one to stop them," franchise owner Chris Haque told SFGATE. A Chronicle reporter on Wednesday found the restaurant dark and empty. Denny's corporate media relations team didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Numerous downtown restaurants and retailers have closed since the pandemic, as remote work and fewer large conventions hurt foot traffic, a factor that Haque also cited. Escalating food prices due to inflation have also put heavy pressure on restaurant owners. Another of the city's 24-hour restaurants, Silver Crest Donut Shop, closed in July. |
