imo, Pres Trump's aid to and support of Pres Putin goes beyond that.

Pres Trump seems to be laying the groundwork for Pres Putin's continuing advance into the old USSR-controlled areas.

For example, even before negotiations for a cease fire began, Pres Trump ceded to Pres Putin that Ukraine will not be allowed to join NATO, and that the US won't guarantee the security of Ukraine.
