Even the hard-right Candidate in f ing Romania conceded when he lost... too bad that can't happen in the US anymore.

"Romanians have chosen to continue their current pro-Western course by turning out in record numbers to vote for the unassuming mayor of Bucharest and against the nationalist doctrines represented by Simion and his ally Calin Georgescu.

But the deep divisions in fractured Romanian society, represented by the small difference in the votes, mean that future president Dan faces a massive challenge to reunite the country and address the looming economic turmoil gripping Romania.

But Romania's choice brings a substantial sigh of relief for the EU, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, at a crucial time for all, also because president-elect Dan will work with the current pro-West majority in parliament.

Campaigning on an anti-corruption and reformist platform, pledging honesty and decency, Dan has not only beaten the hard-right Simion but also the entire Romanian political establishment in the two rounds of the presidential re-run after the Constitutional Court annulled the previous presidential vote held in November and December 2024, setting off an unprecedented, destabilising political crisis."

Apparently it was a late surge of young voters that turned the vote to the actually sentient candidate... per the vid in #2.

I'm not there yet.

I have to ask ... why does the United States seem to be losing its standing on the world stage?

They were expected to become a Russian vassal state yet again under Putin, with a Trump clone in charge.

This IS big news that the the romania former soviet puppet state that didn't declare independence until 1964.

This was a YUGE part of Vlad the Inhaler's plan of snorting up the old Soviet and neighboring nations. Romania will have to start upping border military security as Poland is doing now.

But it seems to be turning into something different?

The 'Trump Effect' on Elections Is Just Beginning, Including in Japan (April 2025)
www.cfr.org

... Donald Trump has only been president of the United States, this time around, for about three months. It has been a dramatic three months since his inauguration"so dramatic that some interesting aspects of the mercurial U.S. leader's impact on the world get less notice. They are often lost among the ways in which he has shocked the global order, global markets, alliances and the U.S. economy itself.

Yet since that inauguration, the president also seems to be creating a "Trump effect" on many, though not all, foreign elections, especially among countries that have been important U.S. allies and partners. In general, the effect has been to boost the popularity of left or center-left parties in national elections. Yet sometimes it is not just leftist parties that win, but rather a leader who stands up to Trump the most or seems to the public like the best-equipped figure to handle the White House.

This is an effect that started recently in Greenland, a Danish-controlled self-governing protectorate. Since his inauguration, Trump has repeatedly and publicly mused about annexing Greenland, sometimes suggesting the U.S. should do so by force.

The impact? In Greenland's March elections, a centrist party that wants gradual independence from Denmark, which many voters seemed to believe puts Greenland in the best position to ward off Trump, won national elections. The party's leader, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, has repeatedly and publicly blasted the U.S. president, calling him "a threat to our political independence." ...

And not to mention that Romania is a strong member of NATO... so I won't mention it.

Perhaps this will push Vlad over the edge on Ukraine though; into using bigger missiles.

Maybe, maybe not. I dunno.

What I have observed is that both Pres Putin and Pres Trump do not seem to care about the views of the people they govern.

That they only seem to care about their own viewpoints.

So, imo, I'd say that it is A Good Thing that Pres Putin does not have a larger control over Romania than he may have tried to exert in the election.
