Chinese government-backed hackers have reportedly stolen information from critical infrastructure and government computer systems as part of a years-long campaign that includes the well-known Salt Typhoon activity. More than 80 countries were targeted and the Chinese hackers are learnt to have "stolen information from nearly every American." The magnitude of the operation, experts say, is proof that China's capabilities rival those of the US and its allies. The US, UK, Canada, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain blamed Beijing for the attacks. "I can't imagine any American was spared given the breadth of the campaign," said Cynthia Kaiser, a former top official in the FBI's cyber division.
