DHS Secretary Kristi Noem was immediately caught lying to a congressional committee after stating, "We have not deported U.S. citizens or military veterans." In response, Rep. Seth Magaziner introduced U.S. Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient Sae Joon Park via Zoom. Park appeared remotely from Korea because DHS ordered the 55-year-old"who was shot twice while serving in Panama in 1989"removed from the country this past June, despite being a lawful permanent resident since coming to the United States with his mother at age seven.
After further questioning from Democratic members, Noem announced that she had to leave to attend a FEMA meeting, despite previously informing the committee that she was available for an additional hour. Noem remained in the Capitol building after leaving the hearing. It was also reported that the FEMA meeting had been cancelled.
