Colorado Republicans this week chose Greg Lopez as their man to replace the newly retired former Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) in Colorado's Fourth Congressional District. In a 2022 interview with KUSA reporter Kyle Clark, Lopez deflected when asked about being arrested in the 1990s for allegedly assaulting his pregnant wife, and he said that he shouldn't be held to the same standards as Jesus Christ when judging what was at the time his candidacy for governor. Scrutiny of Lopez's past arrest came due to his strict anti-abortion position, which includes no exceptions for women who have been raped or are the victims of incest. In addition to his hardline abortion politics, Lopez also falsely claimed that the 2020 election was "stolen" from former President Donald Trump and pushed for a total ban on mail-in voting, which he said is rife with fraud despite lacking evidence to back up his claim. |
