Violent clashes erupted on Wednesday on the campus of the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) between pro-Palestinian protesters and a group of counter-demonstrators, according to live video coverage provided by a U.S. broadcaster. The UCLA student newspaper Daily Bruin said supporters of Israel had tried to tear down a pro-Palestinian protest encampment on the campus.

Dozens of police are marching out of the Murphy Hall parking lot toward Dickson Plaza, the site of the encampment and ongoing protests. The majority of them appear to be affiliated with California Highway Patrol.

"USA, USA!" shout a large swath of counter-protesters as they follow police to the encampment site. "Get those pieces of s" out of the f" grass!" one says.

At the request of UCLA, due to multiple acts of violence within the large encampment on their campus, the LAPD is responding to assist UCLA PD, and other law enforcement agencies, to restore order and maintain public safety.

Statement from Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky: "Everyone has a right to free speech and protest, but the situation on UCLA's campus is out of control and is no longer safe. I'm grateful to LAPD and Mayor Bass for stepping in to ensure the safety of everyone on campus."

Live updates from NBC News:

Police separate rival groups at UCLA but protesters refuse to leave

Rival groups that had earlier been involved in violent confrontations appeared to have been separated by a line of police officers by 2 a.m. (5 a.m. ET).

The scene is less chaotic than earlier, but a vocal group of protesters still refuses to leave despite police calls for them to go home.

Footage broadcast by the Reuters news agency showed a police officer saying through a loudspeaker "the encampment is over for tonight," urging people to leave.

But the pro-Palestinian group chanted in response: "We're not leaving, you don't scare us."

1968 rearing its head?

Biden going to drop out? Craziness at conventions? Unpopular wars? Republicans running a liar and a crook?

"1968 rearing its head?"

The protesters in 1968 had skin in the game-- they were afraid of being drafted to go fight and die for something they didn't believe in. These protests are different. Gen Z really wouldn't have skin in the game if they just went on their merry way and became apathetic 2-paerty sheep like their forebears. But they see that their country is being damaged and set to ruin by a bunch of aged, partisan hacks who wont be around in 20-30 years to reap what they have sown. The older generations of American politicians, who have built and sustained their entire careers based on their unconditional support for Israel, are overwhelmed by this stark, new reality. Their language is confused and riddled with exaggerations and lies. Yet, they are willing to go as far as defaming a whole generation of their own, the future leaders of America, in order to satisfy the demands of the Israeli government.

Shame on those ---------!
