... The James Comey indictment was arguably a tad sloppy. The case was rushed to court by Lindsey Halligan, an insurance lawyer appointed by President Trump last week after he forced out a prosecutor who wouldn't bring the indictments Trump wanted. Ms. Halligan is 36, has only appeared in federal cases involving Mr. Trump, and has never prosecuted a case. She indicted Mr. Comey on two counts related to allegedly lying during congressional testimony, but the process of getting there was apparently quite bumpy.

When Ms. Halligan entered the courthouse to indict Mr. Comey, she reportedly walked into the wrong room.

When she found the right room, she stood on the wrong side of the judge.

She then gave the judge two contradictory indictments, and when the judge was confused, Halligan claimed to have no idea where the second indictment came from.

When the judge pointed out that the mystery indictment had Ms. Halligan's signature on it, Halligan explained, saying: "Okay. Well."

The process was called "junior varsity" and "a clown show" by a retired prosecutor from Ms. Halligan's office, and the indictment attributes words to Comey that he did not say.

... A federal judge blocked the Trump administration on Tuesday from permanently steering $233 million in FEMA disaster relief funds away from 12 blue states, issuing a restraining order just hours before a deadline that would have seen the funds lost for good.

U.S. District Judge Mary McElroy, a Trump appointee to a Rhode Island-based court, said the administration's abrupt decision to repurpose the funds from those states -- just days before the Sept. 30 end of the current fiscal year -- seemed to be plainly illegal. Her ruling ensures that the funds remain available while the states continue to litigate to reclaim them.

It's "yet another case where the administration is saying ... I'm going to do what I want to do and not what the law says and make the court make me," McElroy said at a hastily convened court hearing Tuesday. ...

... A federal judge blocked planned Trump administration cuts at Voice of America and ordered hundreds of employees given layoff notices to be reinstated.

The court order on Monday by Judge Royce C. Lamberth of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia said the administration had violated his April order to bring back VOA's news coverage so it could "serve as a consistently reliable and authoritative source of news."

"Time and time again, the defendants have resisted the Court's efforts to obtain information concerning whether they have fashioned a plan for compliance," Lamberth wrote in his order. "The Court no longer harbors any doubt that defendants lack a plan to comply with the preliminary injunction, and instead have been running out the clock on the fiscal year while remaining in violation of even the most meager reading of USAGM and Voice of America's statutory obligations." ...
