Tax Increase on Colorado's Wealthy to Fund School Meals

Colorado voters approved a ballot measure Tuesday that will increase taxes for households making at least $300,000 annually to fully fund a program that provides free breakfast and lunch for all K-12 public school students. The average income tax increase for those affected is estimated to be $486.

Instead of giving tax cuts to billionaires that will burden future generations, Colorado wants to make the wealthy pay less than $500 a year to feed children?

Colorado Democrats control all three branches of government so the GOP won't be able to overturn the will of the people like Kansas did with reproductive rights.

Tax increases are more palatable and saleable when they are applied to a specific purpose. Unfortunately, what happens is, over time, the money gets diverted to other causes. Also, money that was previously applied is a "worthy cause" is reduced because there is a new funding source.

Here's how this works:
-students with food in their bellies do better in school
-better performing students means better schools
-better schools means more desirable neighborhoods around those schools
-more desirable neighborhoods means higher property values
-higher property values means greater wealth experienced by home owners
