What China Thinks
As Trump and his planeloads of oligarchs and egos head off to a high-stakes summit, it's worth noting how the Chinese regard American power in the Age of Trump.

In January, a nationalistic Beijing think tank affiliated with Renmin University published a triumphant report about Mr. Trump's first year back in office. The report argued that his tariffs, attacks on allies, anti-immigration policies and assaults on the American political establishment had inadvertently strengthened China while weakening the United States. Its title: "Thank Trump." The report called Mr. Trump an "accelerator of American political decay," with the United States sliding toward polarization, institutional dysfunction and even "Latin American-style instability." His hostility toward China, the authors argued, was a "reverse booster" that unified the country and helped bring about its strategic self-reliance. "At this turning point in history," the authors wrote, "what we hear is the heavy and haunting toll of an empire's evening bell." Exit take: I'm guessing this was not what the average Trump voter thought they were getting.

@#1 ... had inadvertently strengthened China while weakening the United States. ...
Well, yeah.
Big time.
I've been posting articles noting how the US seems to be diminishing on the world stage, while China seems to be rising.
All due to Pres Trump's whimsical foreign policies that apparently have done little more than weaken the United States.

My guess as to what China things ...
China is on the rise.
The US is not.
It will be quite interesting to hear how Pres Trump characterizes his talks with Pres Xi.

Just saw this ...
What is the Thucydides Trap'? www.nbcnews.com
... In his remarks earlier today Xi referenced the Thucydides Trap, a theory popularized by Harvard scholar Graham Allison that suggests a high risk of war between an emerging and an established power. "The world has come to a new crossroads," Xi said in opening remarks ahead of bilateral U.S.-China talks. "Can China and the United States overcome the so-called Thucydides Trap and create a new model of relations between major countries?" Xi has discussed the concept, which refers to the ancient Greek war between Sparta and Athens, at several key moments in U.S.-China relations, including during a 2014 interview, his 2015 state visit to the U.S., and his meeting with former President Joe Biden in Peru in 2024. "These are questions of history, questions of the world, and questions of the people," Xi said today. "They are also the answers that you and I, as leaders of major countries, must write for our times." ...

News coming out of the Pres Trump - Pres Xi meeting so far does not seem to be a net positive for the US.
But I'll wait for a day or so until things settle down. Early reporting, and all that ...

Wish I could disagree.
