This story in particular gives me flashbacks because my mom was shot to death in Oregon decades ago. PTSD.

I remember during George the First's first year in office, telling a friend, "You never hear a peep out of that guy. Now that's the kind of president I can get behind." Alas, again, I was wrong.

Corky, not Corey. Dang spellcheck has been extra aggressive lately. :)

113 Me, too. Good find on Corey's part.

It looks like McIntosh wrote first piece LBJ vs Trump), and Dr Beers wrote the Orwellian History piece. Interesting site. I'll do some digging.

Good analysis, Corky. I hadn't seen that site before.

95 Yeah, at least Nixon had an ethos. I have to strain to think of LBJ as any more ethical than Trump, if only on the basis of the Gulf of Tonkin baloney.

94, I'll also have to study up on Talarico

97 I'll study up on him
94, Let's say in the realm of Eisenhower, JFK, and Clinton (peccadillos not withstanding - they're politicians. after all).

I can't imagine anyone involved in this administration will stand a chance in 2028. They've got the stench of polecat on them, and there isn't enough tomato juice in the world to wash it off

Who's the most normal, rational, centrist politician out there that stands half a chance out there in 2028?

One of my old professors I keep in touch with told me he seriously believes that Trump will try to declare a national emergency in 2028, suspend the election, and install Don Junior as president.

68 I was still in elementary school when Nixon flew away in the helicopter. I remember watching it on TV with my parents. It's funny that our elementary school teachers would talk to us so much about Watergate for two years - a bunch of kids. I sort of formed my grown up opinion of Nixon from reading some of his own works, along with Hunter S Thompson's book on the 1972 campaign, All the President's Men, and such. If you've never read Thompson's obit of Bixon, I highly recommend it. It's both brilliant and brutal.

66 Yeah, back in 2016, I figured things were about to get weird, but I didn't think Trump would be such a bad sport. I thought he'd keep popping up on SNL and such, maybe engage in pageantry reflective of his 80s-90s quasi hip hop personality, and all that. I thought he'd have a lighter mood. I was wrong on those counts, but not so wrong that I voted for him.

61 Agreed. Plus, like Trump, he was a cartoonish blowhard. The difference is that LBJ wasn't covered 24/7 in the media with a magnifying glass. If he had been president in the age of the internet, he'd come off pretty much like Trump.

52/53 I'd have to give Nixon the edge over LBJ. Nixon was a more expansive thinker, at least, and had a more interesting personality. Trump is so chaotic and bombastic; he exhausts me. I don't hate him, though (I try to avoid becoming emotional over politicians). I'd say LBJ & Trump are roughly equal intelligence; I'd wager Nixon exceeds both by twenty IQ points. None of them are blue ribbon piggies in the ethics department.

#45 Interesting. Nixon did kill plenty of children in his secret bombing campaigns in Laos and Cambodia, though. I think he denied such campaigns even existed to his dying day, so far as I can recall.

A question of curiosity for both pro and anti Trump DR scenesters:
Where do you place Trump as a president in relation to Nixon?

#19 Isn't the popular story that "she married her brother" in order to facilitate his immigration status, not hers?

#17 Under the Wide Net Scenario, perhaps the feds simply couldn't get a judge to sign off on a warrant In Minnesota.

Lookner just now reiterated that there is no indication that her Minneapolis home is likewise being searched. Wouldn't that be the usual protocol if it were a broad search? It seems they are looking for something fairly specific related to that particular property.
