This was the week in which the Chinese made incredible gains in artificial intelligence and the Americans made incredible gains in human stupidity. I'm sorry, but I look at the Trump administration's behavior over the last week and the only word that accurately describes it is: stupid.

@#14 ... Musk used hackers - at least two internationally known, as part of his DOGE crew. Ties to Russia ...

What We Know So Far About the Young Techies Working for DOGE

...He has also founded several of his own nebulous corporations, including one called Tesla.Sexy LLC, which owns web domains registered in Russia. Security experts told Wired that because of foreign connections like these, his work at Path Network (which has hired hackers convicted of crimes), and evidence suggesting he may have once tried to pay for a cyberattack with Bitcoin, Coristine would be unlikely to clear a traditional background check for access to classified government data.

... Fox News first reported news of the job cuts.

The moves are part of Walmart's broader relocation strategy that began last year and comes as several other U.S. corporates mandate employees return to office three to five days a week.

In May 2024, Walmart made the decision to relocate the majority of its employees in Dallas, Atlanta, and its Toronto Global Tech office to Bentonville, Arkansas, San Francisco and Hoboken. That came a year after it closed three tech offices and asked some staff to relocate to central corporate hubs.

"We are making these changes to put key capabilities together, encouraging speed and shared understanding," Morris said in the memo. "Through this review process, we have eliminated some roles as we streamline how we work and will also be exiting our office in Charlotte, North Carolina."

Walmart, on Tuesday, did not specify the number of people being affected by the decision or the severance packages they will receive if they decide against relocating. Employees will be given a month to inform the company if they plan to move, the Fox News report said.

Earlier this year, Walmart unveiled a new headquarter campus in northwest Arkansas, just a few miles from its previous location it called its "Home Office."

The expansive 350-acre campus is designed to accommodate over 15,000 employees across 12 buildings with move-ins planned to be completed by fiscal year 2026.

The company is also opening new office spaces later this year in Sunnyvale, California and Bellevue, Washington and expanding and upgrading its office in Hoboken and its Fashion office in New York City, the memo said. ...

Treasury Sought to Freeze Foreign Aid Payments, Emails Show
www.nytimes.com

... But emails reviewed by The New York Times show that the Treasury's chief of staff originally pushed for Tom Krause, a software executive affiliated with Mr. Musk's so-called Department of Government Efficiency, to receive access to the closely held payment system so that the Treasury could freeze disbursements to the U.S. Agency for International Development.

In a Jan. 24 email to a small group of Treasury officials, the chief of staff, Dan Katz, wrote that Mr. Krause and his team needed access to the system so they could pause U.S.A.I.D. payments and comply with Mr. Trump's Jan. 20 executive order to halt foreign aid.

"To the extent permitted by law, we would like to implement the pause as soon as possible in order to ensure that we are doing our role to comply with the E.O.," Mr. Katz wrote. ...
