This is along the lines of these czars'. They aren't actual cabinet posts and do not go through advise and consent within the Senate. I've never liked the concept of these czars. Problem is, the precedent has already been set. Musk has no real power other than what the president grants him at his behest. All of these agencies serve at the pleasure of POTUS. I would much prefer our Constitutional structure. Sadly, over the past few decades Congress has eroded that structure away. These days bills are 1000+ pages that spawn thousands of more pages of regulations written by alphabet soup agencies that ostensibly are part of the executive branch

People like me have been warning about precedent. We were mocked when the left was controlling things. Now the tables have turned and we have an administration clearly willing to take advantage of what has been laid at its feet. This is a bed that has largely been built by the left. Now you all can lie in the bed you all constructed.

I'd like to see a 2 pronged approach. Short term, utilize these levers of power the same way the left has in order to achieve ideological goals. At the same time take steps now to put legislative impediments in place to greatly limit this type of governance that moves us back toward our traditional constitutional structure in the longer term.

I care but what Rstybeach posted (thank you for taking the time to do that, BTW) misses the point. Musk works at the pleasure of POTUS. Everything Rstybeach posted is under the purview of POTUS. So, he can assign anyone he wishes to audit all of these items because they are under his control. Congress could deem all of this as a level of corruption that warrants impeachment and removal. Outside of that, the voters put Trump into office which means he runs the Executive branch as he sees fit.

I have mixed feelings about it. Musk doesn't have an official position on the executive branch. He's technically a "czar". OTOH, these action are forcing the hand of Democrats and leftists. To take the view that all of these agencies are sacrosanct is to tacitly admit that we truly have a 4th branch of government.

Well I did read today that Politico and AP have received millions from USAID. Fraudulent? IDK. I do see a huge problem with news outlets that are supposed to critically cover our government receiving millions from said government. Also I think the case can be made that money spent domestically is a violation of the agency's mission which is foreign aid.

As for Musk and DOGE I'm still trying to wrap my mind around all of it.

If you look at the EO DOGE isn't a new entity - it's a renaming of USDS with a temporary (18 month) expansion of its mission. if these agencies are part of the Executive branch POTUS has complete power over how they are run. OTOH how much investigative power does a czar truly have? Based upon the first sentence of Article 2, Section 4 it would appear to be minimal constraints as a czar is acting at the behest of POTUS. But a czar doesn't even go through the advise and consent process.

POTUS has complete control over how any government agency is run that is part of the Executive branch. That isn't me talking, it's the Constitution talking.
