Of course, I liked Carlos Castaneda, too, but we were trippin' back then. So was he!

Never tripped that much! No matter how much I tried. My brain refused to ignore reality. Fortunately for my family.
I followed Castaneda's stories for a while in the 70s. I thought he might be on to something. He was. He was making money and developing a harem or more accurately a coven.
Castaneda withdrew from public life in 1973 and maintained a high level of secrecy, using aliases and rarely allowing himself to be photographed or recorded.
It is known that Carlos Castaneda lived with a group of female followers known as "the witches" in a secretive cult that operated out of his Westwood, Los Angeles, compound. The women, many of whom were his lovers, adopted new identities and cut ties with their families.
Though I still believe his stories had merit and some measure of truth. (As much truth as you can get from mescaline. Which is quite a lot I hear.) I also understand it is quite a trickster. As was he. As most sorcerers are. Apparently.
