People like Clinton and Trump are Exploitative. They create Crisis to use Government like a Bludgeon.
It generally works too.
They are a natural step in REPUBLICAN Evolution. Bush/Cheney stole 2000 with SCOTUS Connivance. Trump tried again in 2020 but didn't succeed.
The Democrats hate primaries and usually ignore them but that only hurts their own Electoral Prospects.
Overall the country IS becoming less Free.

A Big increase in Militarism and an Equal increase in Authoritarian Usurping of Congress's Perogatives by the Executive, by Presidents of Both Parties.
Clinton tried to get a line item Veto.
Bush Started a major war without Congress but at least talked to them first.
Trump is Usurping ALL Powers into his own Person and Congress isn't really resisting very much.
It is a Progressive Disease and both Parties are Complicit.
