Republicans on the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee voted unanimously to block an amendment to a bill that would prevent child sex offenders who were pardoned by Donald Trump from receiving payment from a newly established $1.8 billion slush fund that Trump's personal attorney Todd Blanche agreed to have the government create as part of the settlement involving a member of the Trump led IRS during his first term having leaked part of Trump's tax returns. read more
Alan Chambers, former President of Exodus International, an organization that connected a network of more than 400 anti-gay Christian ministries in 17 countries, was arrested for attempting to solicit sex over the internet from an undercover police officer who was posing as a 14 year old boy.
Platner is, as the kids say, cooked. He should drop out immediately so the party can officially start the business of selecting a replacement. My recommendation, Troy Jackson. He doesn't have the charisma of Platner but he's a known quantity in Maine politics having served in multiple terms in both the state house and senate. His politics are similar to Platner's so much so that they endorsed each other when Jackson was running for the Democratic primary nomination for governor in the recent election. He lost that one but it was a strange election with Jackson being one of 4 candidates to receive at least 20% of the first place votes in what was a ranked choice election.
