What a load of crap. As someone who spent a couple years in a homeless shelter I can tell you there were people from all walks of life. Some were drug addicts trying to get clean but couldn't because the disease runs rampant within them. Not all were criminals either. Just people down on their luck and were desperate for shelter. Life's not always sunshine and roses. Sometimes it's a mattress on the floor of a homeless shelter.

I think you're seeing Fauci all wrong.
Frankly, rather than Fauci being a deflection for Trump, I think Fauci is really a deflection for Democrats and media figures who aggressively promoted misinformation, supported prolonged restrictions, and helped damage the economy. "Don't blame us. We just did what Fauci said."
Trump clearly did not want the economy shut down. Democrats were far more willing to prolong the shutdowns, and many of them had an obvious political incentive to blame Trump for the consequences.
They saw this as a way to harm Trump and usher in greater dependence on government money.
