An Oklahoma accused of murdering a priest is reportedly a Trump supporter who wrote letters about wanting to "make church great again". Gary Hermesch, 66, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the fatal shooting of Father Arul Carasala, 57, found with gunshot wounds outside the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, Kansas, last week. It has now emerged that years before the attack, Hermesch reportedly penned several letters to the editor of the Seneca-based newspaper The Courier-Tribune in praise of the president. "Let's not sweat the small stuff, though, maybe if we just follow Donald Trump's example we'll make the Church great again,'" he wrote. "So why are things headed south like a runaway freight train? Simple. The faith is not being taught. Now is that equality and tolerance of other religions, or what?"
The Trump administration-led justice department planned to send armed US marshals to deliver a letter warning a career pardon attorney about testifying to Congress after she says she was fired over a case involving the actor Mel Gibson, her lawyer said in a letter seen by Reuters on Monday. "This highly unusual step of directing armed law enforcement officers to the home of a former Department of Justice employee who has engaged in no misconduct, let alone criminal conduct, simply to deliver a letter, is both unprecedented and completely inappropriate," Michael Bromwich, a lawyer representing the fired pardon attorney Liz Oyer, wrote to the justice department. read more
Joe Rizzuto opened his Main Street Donuts shop in Matawan on Saturday, as he's been doing for the last two and a half years. Hours later, his business was the target of an alleged hate crime. Maciej Wojciak, 61, was arrested by Matawan police and charged with several crimes, including terroristic threats and criminal mischief. After allegedly trying to take down a Pride flag at the doughnut shop, Wojciak is also accused of threatening to burn the donut shop down and making a Nazi salute. In a video taken by Rizzuto and sent to NJ Advance Media, Wojciak can be seen blocking traffic wearing a MAGA hat and wig. He gets out of the car and simulates sex acts to the camera before performing Nazi salutes and driving away. Officers tracked down Wojciak's car and arrested him Saturday. He was charged with bias intimidation and disorderly conduct, along with terroristic threats and criminal mischief.
Former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman, who led a widely derided review of the 2020 presidential election, searching for evidence for baseless accusations of fraud, will have his law license suspended for three years, according to a stipulated agreement between him and the state Office of Lawyer Regulation (OLR). The allegations against Gableman stemmed from his treatment of the mayors of Green Bay and Madison, whom he threatened with jail time during his review, false statements he made during testimony to legislative committees, violating the state's open records laws, breaching his contract with Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and, when OLR began investigating him, "making false statements" to the investigators in an affidavit.
