... The big picture: The censure measure is another instance of the deep infighting that has marked the Texas GOP in the past year, with an ultra-conservative faction often battling with other party members.

- - - Phelan previously called on the GOP to cut ties with "the rot" that exists within the party.

- - - He has faced multiple calls from state and national party members, including former President Trump, to step down, especially after leading the House to impeach Paxton in May 2023. The Senate later acquitted Paxton.

Looks like he is paying the price for not wanting to kiss fmr Pres Trump's ring.

Yet another example of how the Republican Party is now marching goose-step in line with fmr Pres Trump.

The Republican "big tent" has become a farce. Now it seems that only certain people (people whose blood has not been poisoned by immigrants) are allowed to enter the tent and be a part of the circus inside.

Punishing dissent is definitely not a hallmark of fascism.

Treating bipartisanship like it's collaboration with the enemy is definitely not a hallmark of fascism either.

This is legitimate political discourse.

Attorney General Ken Paxton's own employees were turning him in for corrupt practices. So censuring House Speaker Dade Phelan, is just political theater of party over reality.
