The pool of potential romantic partners is about to increase dramatically. Author and robot expert Dr. David Levy thinks that before 2050 we'll be marrying robots.

This article postulates disturbing questions for philosophers and Theologians, and that is, are we humans really just biological robots?

This is straight out of the movie Blade Runner (1982).I think Philip K Dick was a prophet

Shane:

Preceding Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" (1968) was the seminal 1962 film "Creation of the Humanoids." This was the first introduction of "androids" into the sci-fi canon and Andy Warhol's favorite movie. Produced on a shoe-string, the director uses unique camera angles and sound effects to create a mini-masterpiece. The film is also allegorical about civil rights-- you will note the use of borrowed Confederate Army props from the studio.

Ugh.

Large language models are NOT artificial intelligence. Sure, it's popular to call them "AI", but that's really a misnomer.

I would seriously doubt real AI will exist by 2050. We don't know how to do it yet, and we don't have the processing power for it yet. And Moore's law is dead, the next 25 years of processing power increases are NOT going to look like the last 25 years.

Can you build a sexbot with a LLM in it? Sure, that could be done. But you're still just ------------.

Yes. Humans are just biological machines. Philosophers and theologians are just biological machines, and theologians are just particularly stupid ones. It's not a particularly disturbing question, it's just reality.

And we will eventually figure out how to make other machines that think. But it's going to be a while, and it's going to take some breakthroughs in computing, because we're getting to the end of how much smaller we can make transistors.

Trump married Melania, didn't he?

Don't need or want a 'robot wife'. I want the 'Chorebot 2000'. A non-linked to A.I. robot that understands basic chore commands, and does the dishes, the laundry, and mows the lawn. It also has to have a lifetime warranty. Invent that, I will plop 5k down in front of your face so fast that your head will spin.
