US and Microsoft Disrupt a Russian Hacking Group

A hacking group tied to Russian intelligence tried to worm its way into the systems of dozens of Western think tanks, journalists and former military and intelligence officials, Microsoft and U.S. authorities said Thursday.

"The group, known as Star Blizzard to cyberespionage experts, targeted its victims with emails that appeared to come from a trusted source " a tactic known as spear phishing. In fact, the emails sought access to the victims' internal systems, as a way to steal information and disrupt their activities.

Star Blizzard's actions were persistent and sophisticated, according to Microsoft, and the group often did detailed research on its targets before launching an attack.

Star Blizzard also went after civil society groups, U.S. companies, American military contractors and the Department of Energy, which oversees many nuclear programs, the company said.

On Thursday, a U.S. court unsealed documents authorizing Microsoft and the Department of Justice to seize more than 100 website domain names associated with Star Blizzard.

That action came after a lawsuit was filed against the network by Microsoft and the NGO-Information Sharing and Analysis Center, a nonprofit tech organization that investigated Star Blizzard."

'
"The Russian government ran this scheme to steal Americans' sensitive information, using seemingly legitimate email accounts to trick victims into revealing account credentials," Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said in announcing the U.S. actions against Star Blizzard.

"With the continued support of our private sector partners, we will be relentless in exposing Russian actors and cybercriminals and depriving them of the tools of their illicit trade."

Russia has been waging a silent war against the United States for the past couple decades.

They installed their own puppet president and have fully usurped the GOP.

Which is why Republicans are SO pro-Russia.

are you including voters in that?

republican voters admit to being pro Russia?

republican voters admit to being pro Russia?

Ebs, do just ignore the multitude of posts and threads since 2020 that documented all the MAGAts running around attending Trump rallies wearing gear like this?

This is new to you?

Maybe it's lost on you but that's trashing democrats.....

It's like a bunch of dads talking about who they want their daughters to marry......"I'd rather my daughter marry a Ni$$er than a Jew".

does that comment sound like those dads like blacks?

The Republican Party has grown much more supportive of Russia in recent years

The change in Republican voters' views of Putin since Trump's rise is remarkable

#8 | Posted by tonyroma at 2024-10-03 05:35 PM

the first link proves the democrats over the past 10 years have more supportive of Putin than the republicans.

#9 | Posted by eberly at 2024-10-03 05:37 PM

correction.....it's the second link I'm referencing and it's not an entire 10 year window.

But it does show that democrats had a higher opinion of putin for some time.......

what does that mean?

#10 | Posted by eberly at 2024-10-03 05:39 PM

but I accept your point. It does say that some republicans have a more favorable view of Putin than democrats........

#11 | Posted by eberly at 2024-10-03 05:40 PM

what does that mean?

Early on, there was hope that Putin would be able to reign in the corruption that occurred under Yeltsin, even though he was ex-KGB. He claimed to want democratic reforms, even possibly joining NATO. You don't remember this?

Of course, it was all for show. Putin quickly morphed into the autocratic dictator, kleptocrat, and friends to fellow Russian oligarchs he was born to be, drawing the scorn of Democrats and Republicans alike in the 2000's.

-Early on, there was hope that Putin would be able to reign in the corruption that occurred under Yeltsin

Aaahh..Hope and Change. I heard that somewhere before.

Turns out there was never any reason to be supportive of Putin.

But those Putin favorability polls didn't drive election results, did it?

Did it make commies out of anybody who may have responded favorably and did that favorability undermine what either party was doing with regards to national security?

IOW, did it really matter?

gotta run. Another great exchange. I love those.......

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality
Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see

I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go

Little high, little low

Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me, to me

Which is why Republicans are SO pro-Russia.

Republicans should go live in Russia for a few years.

See the type of world they are hoping to turn America into.

I bet they're all crying and begging to come back after the first month.

Thanks for the confirmation.
