How Saturday Night Live became woke garbage

Saturday Night Live has achieved legendary status " not a good thing for what is still meant to be a living, breathing comedy show. That is clear from the back-to-back premieres last weekend of a movie about the series' beginnings, and the new season of the show itself. Jason Reitman's film, Saturday Night, a loving but flimsy fictional account of the 90 minutes leading up to the first episode in 1975, was released on Friday. The next night you could have zoomed ahead almost half a century to watch the tepid, half-hearted 50th season premiere of SNL. Both suggest how much the myth of the show has overtaken its reality.

Define "Woke"

I have no idea what "woke" means, at least as the Right attempts to use that word. They are always afraid of vague boogeymen, "woke" is just the latest. I wonder if it wears a ski mask?

How could SNL NOT make fun of Trump and his clowns? He's a circus and the Right his monkeys. MTG complaining today that Liberals control the weather and created Helene is all you need to know.

And BTW, that's a typical liberal tactic.

Change the subject instead of talking about it.

- Define "woman."

As in, 'I woke up next to a pair of the sexiest feet in military history!' - Major B.

@#2 ... I have no idea what "woke" means, at least as the Right attempts to use that word. ...

From what I am able to discern, the Right uses the word as an unspecific derogatory when they do not want to be questioned about what they say or write.

For example, the headline of the this is:
How Saturday Night Live became woke garbage

Yet the headline of the cited article is:
How Saturday Night Live became a TV phenomenon -- but then lost its way

Quite the difference.

So, does "woke" in this instance mean" lost their way?"

Hey, Boaz, what did you actually mean by "woke" when you inserted the word "woke" in the headline?

fwiw, I have watched SNL since the premiere back in the day. I still remember Ms Curtain asking in a mock commercial, "is it a a floor wax or a dessert topping." My friends who were watching the premiere with me, just looked at each other incredulously.

After the premiere ended, we talked and pretty much came to the conclusion that ~this show was different.~

That was 50 years or so ago. Now, SNL has entered its 50th season on air.

Yeah, there was a period (1990's?) where SNL seemed to matter less, but nowadays I'd say it has recovered from that period.

Is it back to where it was back in the mid- to late-70's? No.

But it was such a shock (not an overstatement) back then that I doubt if it could ever have a similar effect upon an audience and stay within the FCC broadcast guidelines.

I'm not too sure about that, a_monson.

I think boaz is more like Clayton Bigsby.
